CASE HISTORY Rev: 00, Issue Data 28.11.2003 REINFORCED SOIL STRUCTURES AND SLOPE EROSION CONTROL Product: Mac Mat R, Paralink 1000, GREEN TERRAMESH PROTECTION OF KOSCIUSZKO NATIONAL MEMORIAL KRAKOW - POLAND Problem The city of Krakow is dominated by an imposing fortress on which an earth mound was erected in memory of the national hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko. This mound has suffered from erosion and continu- ous water infiltration over the years, which has re- sulted in its semi-collapse. Solution The remedial works consisted in placing MacMat R erosion-resistant matting, anchored to the mound by means of dowels. This was followed by hydroseed- ing for the growth of vegetation and to protect against further infiltration. Finally reconstruction of the last ring used the Green Terramesh reinforced soil system. The base of the last ring was reinforced by means of the Paralink 1000 geogrid (to prevent vertical settlements and consolidate the base of the reinforced soil structure) and waterproofed to avoid the problematic infiltration of water into the body of the mound. Problem

The city of Krakow is dominated by an imposing

fortress on which an earth mound was erected in

memory of the national hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

This mound has suffered from erosion and continu-

ous water infiltration over the years, which has re-

Solution
