Thank you for choosing the Matrix PROTON 103! Please read the instructions in

this Quick Start carefully to install and program this ultra-compact, Small and

Home Office PBX.

Know your PROTON 103

The PROTON 103 is an entry-level PBX with one trunk and three stations. The

three stations are numbered as 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

Before you Start

1. Verify the package contentsUnpack the box. Make sure that the package contains all the following

items. If any item is missing or damaged, please contact the dealer/

reseller who sold you the PBX.

2. Get your Trunk and Station Cables ready 

For the Trunk and Stations, use a standard telephone cable (two-pair twisted

cable with 0.5mm connector). The length of the station cable may be extended

up to 800 meters.

Strip the ends of the trunk and station cables to be inserted on the system

side about 1 cm to ensure firm and neat contacts.

3. Get your Station Telephones ready 

You will need three Single Line Telephones to connect as stations. Any ordinary

push button phone, with or without Call Line Display, even cordless phones

can be connected to the PROTON 103.

IMPORTANT: Use single line telephones equipped with a Flash key, asseveral of the features supported by PROTON 103 require you to dial the

‘Flash’ Key. If your phone does not have a Flash key, tap the Hook switch

to dial Flash.

Step 1: Installing PROTON 103

1. Select a suitable place on the wall to mount PROTON 103. Use the wall

mount template provided to mark the nail holes on the wall. Drill two

holes of appropriate size. Fix the two M 7/30 screws (supplied) on the

wall with the help of the screw grips (supplied). The screws must protrude

slightly from the wall. Align the keyhole slots with the screws fixed on the

wall. Slide the PROTON 103 down on the screws to secure it on the wall.

Or 

Lay the PROTON 103 on a table (with the front side facing up).

Connect the Trunk line

2. Remove the cover of the PROTON 103 by pressing on the top panel of the

PROTON 103 as indicated (Figure 5).

3. Using your thumb and index finger, grip and push back the Trunk terminal

(Figure 2).

4. Insert the stripped ends of the two wires into the two terminal openings

(one wire in each opening). Release your grip. Ensure that both wires fitneatly.

Connect the station lines

5. Using your thumb and index finger, grip and push back the Station

terminal of Station number 2 (Figure 2).

6. Insert the stripped end of each wire of the station cable into each opening/

hole respectively. Release your grip. Ensure that both wires in the cable fit in

neatly.

Repeat the same steps to connect Station number 3 and 4.

7. Match pulse/tone of trunk line and stations. If trunk line is pulse type,

keep all the station phones in pulse mode. Similarly, if trunk line is tone

type, keep all the station phones in tone mode.

Powering the PROTON 

8. Check voltage in the mains supply.

9. Insert the 3-pin plug of the mains cable into an electrical outlet supplying

230VAC, 50Hz power.

10. Switch On mains to power the PROTON. The power LED, ‘ON’, will be turned

on when mains switch is operated.

Step 2: Configuring PROTON 103

PROTON is programmed by dialing code sequences for each station and feature

group. The code sequence is typically:

Dial Code-Station Number-Code.

If programming code sequence you dialed is incorrect, you will get an

error tone. Replace the handset to disconnect, enter the correct code

sequence again.

1. Enter Programming Mode

• Lift Handset.

• Dial 19-1234 (default password).

2. Set Feature Access Level 

Basic features like Call Transfer, Hold/Toggle, Call Pick Up, Auto Call

Back, are available on all stations. However, to set more advanced

features like Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Conference, etc., you must set the

Feature Access Level for each station.

To set feature access level for Station 2:

• Dial 31-2-0 for Basic features.

• Dial 31-2-1 for Basic features, Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Hot Outward

Dialing.

• Dial 31-2-2 for Basic features, Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Hot Outward

Dialing, Interrupt Request.

• Dial 31-2-3 for Basic features, Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Hot Outward

Dialing, Interrupt Request, Conference.• Dial 31-2-4 for Basic features, Do Not Disturb, Hotline, Hot Outward

Dialing, Interrupt Request, Conference, Raid.

Follow the same steps for Station 3 and 4.

3. Set Class of Service Level 

To set Class of Service for Station 2:

• Dial 32-2-0 to deny Trunk access.• Dial 32-2-1 to allow dialing of only local numbers.

• Dial 32-2-2 to allow dialing of numbers starting with ‘9’

• Dial 32-2-3 to allow STD access.

• Dial 32-2-4 to allow ISD access.

Follow the same steps for Station 3 and 4.

4. Set Hunting Scheme

To set the Hunting Scheme for Station 2:

• Dial 43-2-0 to turn Off Hunting.

• Dial 43-2-1 for Round Robin Ring.

• Dial 43-2-2 for Delayed Simultaneous Ring.

• Dial 43-2-3 for Immediate Simultaneous Ring.

Default: Round Robin

Follow the same steps for Station 3 and 4.

5. Set Day and Night Mode

To set Day-Night Mode manually:

• Dial 11 to change to Day mode.

• Dial 12 to change to Night mode.

To set Auto Day-Night Mode:

• Dial 221 to turn ON.

• Dial 222 to turn OFF.Default: Off 

To set a Station as destination for Day/Night Mode:

• Dial 41-2 to set Station 2 as destination for Day Mode.

• Dial 42-2 to set Station 2 as destination for Night Mode.

Follow the same steps for Station 3 and 4.

6. Exit Programming Mode

• Dial ‘0’ .

• You will hear the dial tone.

Congratulations! PROTON 103 is now fully operational with its PBX features.

Reinstate Default Setup?

• Dial 19-Password (if not changed, use default 1234).

• Dial 18-Password -get confirmation tone.

• Reconfigure the PROTON 103.

Change Programming Password?

• Dial 21-New Password (max. 4 digits).

Forgot Programming Password?

To restore default password:

• Switch off power supply, plug out the mains cable.• Remove top cover.

• Change position of mini jumper on the PCB (J5) near the LED

connector to A-B position (Figure 3).

• Connect mains cable, switch on power supply.

• Wait for 3 seconds Do not touch the device! 

• Switch off power supply, remove mains cable.

• Restore mini jumper to original position B-C.

• Replace top cover.

• Switch on power supply.

• Enter programming mode by dialing Dial 19-1234.

Step 3: Test Calls

Making a call 

To make an external call:

• Lift the handset.

• Dial ‘0’ .

• Wait for Dial tone.

• Dial the desired number.

• Talk.

• Replace the handset to disconnect.

To call another station:

• Dial Station number.

• Talk.• Replace the handset to disconnect.

Receiving a call 

• Have a call made to you from another phone line.

• Lift the handset when the station rings.

• Talk.

• Replace handset to disconnect.
