dear Friend of Providence, every year we feel blessed to have your support and commitment, and 2013 was no exception. Because of your generosity and dedication, Providence in oregon took many important steps forward in our ongoing journey of providing excellent, compassionate service to our patients and communities.

We hope you enjoy and are inspired by the stories in this annual report – all of which you helped make possible. Whether it’s a nursing center resident enjoying greater mobility, a mother who knows her child is well cared for while she receives medical treatment, family members who feel blessed knowing their loved one is receiving excellent care near the end of life, a father whose sudden stroke is quickly assessed and treated close to home, or a young woman who faces breast cancer with new hope and possibility … all of these stories, and many more, exist because you care.

“Thank you” seems inadequate, but it is heartfelt. Providence literally couldn’t be Providence without your faith, enthusiasm, support, talents and energy. Thank you wholeheartedly on behalf of all those we serve.

n 2013 Providence Festival of trees

Providence Festival of Trees in Medford celebrated another year of bringing holiday joy to the community. Snowy and icy weather put a damper on the crowds over the weekend, but not on the giving. The weekend’s events helped raise more than $489,000 to support robotic-assisted surgery at Providence Medford Medical Center. The foundation is grateful to all the volunteers and community members who braved the snow to help support Providence and the new da Vinci robot-assisted surgery unit. Since the first festival in 1992, this annual holiday event has raised more than $6 million to help support important community projects at Providence Medford Medical Center.

n Estate gifts leave legacies

In 2013, the Providence Community Health Foundation received two substantial estate gifts from donors who were extremely grateful for the care they received at Providence during their lifetime. Wanting to ensure this same care for future generations, their estate gifts provided funding to purchase the daVinci robot, one of the most advanced robotic surgery technologies available. Their gifts also helped support our hospice program with additional technology and training. These estate gifts provide a powerful impact on the future of the southern Oregon community by helping to ensure high- quality, compassionate care for many years to come.

A fun, festive atmosphere awaited guests at the 22nd annual Providence Festival of Trees in southern Oregon.
