Let’s Make Provincetown Less Rat Friendly:Changes to Regulations and Enforcement Effective December 1,

2019Complaints to the Board of Health about rats led to the creation of a task force to addressthe issue. The task force came up with a list of regulation changes to make Provincetown lessaccommodating to rats, in effect as of December 1st:

all trash and recycling cans must be labeled with your address;any dumpster or “roll-off” must be accompanied by an integrated pest management (IPM) contract forthe duration that the dumpster is on your property;IPM contracts are required for construction work that includes interior finish removal to the studs orwhole building demolition.

In addition, residents and businesses are reminded that the Board of Health approved other changes towaste collection last December:

trash and recycling containers are required to have fitting lids;any covered 32-gallon container can be used for recycling as long as it is marked “RECYCLING” ontwo opposing sides;recycling is no longer accepted in clear plastic bags;all trash and recycling must be fully enclosed and protected from vermin.

Repeat violations will be subject to fines.

Silent Auction toBenefit WOMR

A colorful handmade quilt will benefitCape Cod’s only community radio station

An exquisite quilt, handmade by textile artist Julia Willecke, isbeing auctioned off by WOMR, the community radio station announced today.

The quilt is a joyous riot of rainbow colors with a subdued elegant backing and measures four by five feet. It isvalued at $500, with an opening bid of $200 and a minimum $25 bid thereafter.“We are so fortunate to have such talented artists on the Cape and as part of our WOMR family,” says JohnBraden, WOMR’s executive director. “We’re delighted at Julia’s generous gift and hope it will generate a lot ofenergy—and bids! Whoever takes this home will be very lucky, and very warm.”WOMR recently announced its capital improvement campaign’s goals were met through communityparticipation and grants. The campaign to modernize, upgrade, and replace the broadcasting infrastructurewas successful and the studio upgrades are in process. However, none of those monies covers the station’songoing operating expenses, which rely heavily on membership pledges and events. Proceeds from the quiltauction will go toward those expenses.

Bidding for the quilt is now open at www.womr.org and will close on December 16, 2019, at 3:00pm EST.

Artists at Castle Hill & Edgewood FarmTuesday, December 10, 2019 4 – 6pm

At the Castle Hill Gallery, 10 Meetinghouse RoadTruro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill will be doing a closing reception on Tuesday December 10 at4:00pm in the Gallery at Castle Hill, 10 Meetinghouse Road. It’s so exciting to see what happenswhen you give an artist space & time (and walls) to make their art! We are very lucky to have 2 greatartists that have been working at both Castle Hill and Edgewood Farm as they wind down their timein creating their work. Sharon Harper who comes to us from Michigan, and a newly retired Professorof Art is working with found materials, clay, drawing and painting and sewing. From ceramic ears tolarger than life self portraits, we are excited about the work coming out of the studio.

“First there is the area. The ocean the bay and the beautiful grounds at Edgewood Farm. Next it isthe staff who are welcoming and bright and make this place alive. Then there is my work which hashad a chance to leave my head and sprawl across the wall in this beautiful space. Havinguncomplicated time to just sit and stare at my pieces and be able to add this and subtract that ….it isand incredible process that I visit daily. It has been a time to find old ideas and wrangle with themuntil new ideas take form. I love it here.” Said Sharon Harper.

The other artist in resident is Gina Rubin, she is a ceramic artist working on a new series of work.“My work is strongly influenced by the coastal environment I live in, as I am drawn to graceful fluidforms with movement, which are plentiful along the coastline. I’m fascinated by the transformationalrelationship between water and sand in its’ natural element. The continual rhythm and ebb and flowof the shoreline engages my creative process. I seek to enhance the beauty of everyday life throughfunctional elegance in my pottery practice. My hope is that the viewers’ eye is drawn to my functionaland sculptural porcelain work in an inviting joyful way.

“When I was considering an Artist in Residency Program, Castle Hill Truro Center for the Artsseemed like a natural progression for further inspiration. Observing the visual elements of the OuterCape has been a very inspiring experience as an artist. I look forward to seeing how the nuances ofthis transformational experience continue to influence my work over time.” Says Gina. She isexperimenting with glazes and new forms. It’s exciting for me to see the progression in both of theartists work.

Castle Hill now offers an Artist Residency Program from October through December for 2 weeks to 3months for artists working in all mediums. And during the winter months, January – March we have a3 month residency for 2 emerging ceramic artists. And the deadline for the Spring Residency isJanuary 15th for March, April and May.
