Screening Unit

Validation Unit

When called forward to the screening unit, a non-contact thermometer will be used by the screening technician to check the temperature of the pax. The time will be approximately 20 seconds per pax from being called forward, having their temperature checked and directed either to continue or directed to a holding area.

The pax in the validation unit/area will be asked to complete a short screening questionnaire which will provide more detailed information for deciding if the person potentially has COVID-19 . The time will be approximately two minutes per pax

Validation or Screening Unit

We have partnered with Source BioScience, an international provider of integrated state of the art laboratory services.

Source BioScience, provide a COVID-19 PCR testing service from their ISO:15189:2012 laboratories in Nottingham and have been approved to provide PCR testing to the NHS .The laboratory is open 24/7 and will have the capacity to conduct 3000 tests/day.

The swab sample would be taken by the HCP medic in full PPE. The sample will be placed in a vial with a transport medium and packaged to strict guidelines. The sample will have a unique pax ID; this ID will be associated with the result.

PCR tests will be transported each day from the location to the laboratory in Nottingham. The test results will take between 12 to 24 hours and will be reported to the person who has been tested.

The test kit carries the CE IVD mark and is 99.9% accurate as per manufacturers data sheets (providing the swab itself is taken correctly).

The PCR test process on site will take approximately ten minutes.

SCREENING PROCESS C – RAPID DIAGNOSTIC ANTIBODY TESTING (optional)

Validation or Screening Unit

A small blood sample is taken from the person to be tested.

The results will be confirmed to the passenger, normally within ten minutes.

Should a person test positive, a re-test will be carried out straight away. If positive again and the result is clearly +ve for the IgG antibody and –ve for IgM antibody then it is likely the person has had the COVID-19 virus and is no longer contagious, providing the person has had more than seven days of symptoms.

If there is a +ve result for the IgM antibody, then the person is probably still contagious and would not be allowed to travel.

SCREENING UNIT PERFORMANCEDependant on screening process deployed, each unit has the capacity to process up to 180 pax per hour

Using analytics tools we are able to determine :• the number of processing stations for each

hub, based on anticipated and actual catchment demand (continuously updated)

• Queueing and waiting times• Staffing levels• PPE & other disposable requirements• Antibody test kit requirements• Flow of test kits to processing labs

We can also:Process demand prediction for each hubDaily gather actual demand data from each hub and processUpdate predictions based on actual data

UNIT STAFFING & MANAGEMENT

All HCP’s and screening technicians are rigorously trained, and able to operate remotely in challenging environments. Scenario training will take place during training, replicating the potential challenges and pressures that personnel might face, this ensures that only those capable of delivering a robust medical and screening service are selected. Each facility or facilities will have an agreed number of screening technicians, staffed on a shift basis, and with staff to cover breaks, lunch, illness etc.

Each shift will be managed by an HCP to ensure screening procedures are adhered to and provide a quality and customer friendly service. It is anticipated that there will be pax issues/frustrations, which will need to be dealt with by a competent manager with a medical background.

The overall management of the operation will be supervised by an HCP with an appropriate background in managing large medical/screening teams and will be based on site.
