White Paper RELEASE NOTES

Known Issues

The following table lists known issues in this release. All issues have a severity level of Medium or less. Workarounds and GCAS numbers are noted if available.

Embedded Software Issues Area Issue

TRuepoint 6500 On refreshing the TRuepoint 6500 equipment view MSTUs then appeared in P, W1 and W7 slots. This was diagnosed as a problem with the 6500 device MIB interface. The WebLT correctly presented only P and W1, however using a MIB Browser it could be seen that the P1 module inventory details were repeated in W7. Workaround: reset the SV module.

DVM SNMP communications with DVM devices are sometimes unreliable. In particular, when accessing performance data the device sometimes returns a Null response.

Security A problem with Eclipse 5.3 firmware prevents the Security Status Report from indicating whether Portal security has been enabled. The provided MIB object always reports False. The fix is planned for Eclipse 5.4 firmware.

ProVision Issues Area Issue

Capacity Reports The Capacity Report doesn't show OC3 data-rate. The data rate is presented as STM-1 instead of OC3.

Circuits Circuit Provisioning is slow for long circuits. The plan is to investigate speeding up the write process by writing to multiple nodes in parallel.

Data Collection Daily performance collection timestamp is GMT midnight not local midnight resulting in timestamp inaccuracy.

NBI GCAS 36529: For the NBI Config file, an update event is generated daily. This informational event should only be generated when a change is detected since last reading the configuration file. Workaround: Create a text filter to filter out these events.

Performance Data ProVision and Portal performance data time stamps can differ by up to 1 day due to the way ProVision calculates performance sample timestamps. ProVision is not correctly taking account of the time zone when calculating the timestamp for the performance sample.

ProVision Client If network communications is lost between Server and Client, the Client shuts down. This problem also occurs where a Client session is running on the Server and the Ethernet cable is unplugged from the Server. Workaround: Keeping the Server plugged into an Ethernet switch prevents a Client session on the Server from shutting down. There is no ability to run the Client on a separate machine without a connection to the Server.

ProVision Server (Solaris)

The Clients must be connected to the Solaris Server HME0 Ethernet adaptor, or else the Clients will be unable to connect to the Server.

Reports When generating Custom Reports on a large network containing thousands of devices, the report takes a long time to render and during this time the Client is unresponsive. Workaround: Run the report on smaller numbers of devices.

Reports Network Health Report timestamps are not aligned on midnight boundaries, resulting in date/time confusion.

White Paper RELEASE NOTES

Depending on the hardware configuration, a single ProVision server can support a maximum SLV of 6,000.

Please refer to the SUN hardware and Windows hardware tables below to see how the node loading value relates to the hardware specifications.

The number of node licenses required to manage a network is based on the number of managed network elements where typically 1 node license = 1 SNMP / IP address deployed into the ProVision server database.

The exceptions to this rule are:

TRuepoint 6500 where each MSTU provides one radio channel and a fully loaded link can support up to 8 radio channels – therefore 8 node licenses per terminal might be required.

MegaStar where each SPU provides 3 radio channels therefore the node license per terminal is 2 instead of 1.

XP4 remote managed links where just 1 NMI card and IP address is used to manage both ends of an XP4 link.

White Paper RELEASE NOTES

LAN Client to Server Latency Specification

It is important to follow the required latency specifications for ProVision. The performance of the ProVision system is affected by the latency between the Client and the Server. In a system with multiple Clients, high latency between the Server and a single Client will affect the performance of all clients, both LAN and WAN based.

Latency in msec Notes

Recommended 10 This is the recommended minimum latency for any ProVision Client connection to the ProVision Server.

Maximum 20 This is the maximum latency for any ProVision Client connection to the ProVision Server. Exceeding this value will result in poor performance.

It is probable that the latency specification may be exceeded when a ProVision LAN client is used remotely (e.g., VPN or WAN connection). When this is the case, a ProVision WAN client solution must be used.

Symptoms of slow latency are:

Slow start-up.

Slow object deployment.

Slow object detention times.

Client intermittently closing.

Client freezing with grey screen.

If you find problems with these release notes, or if you discover a product defect, please contact an Aviat Networks Technical Help Desk. Refer to page ii for Technical Help Desk contact details
