IntroductionPRPC Personal Edition 7.1.2 provides a learning environment for a single developer. This version of PRPCis fully functional but performance is limited by the speed and memory of your workstation.

Rules and applications you develop with the Personal Edition can be saved and moved to one or more fullPRPC systems on 7.1.2 or a later version.

What Gets Installed

The Personal Edition installation package includes:

n Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.0_45 and Developer Kit (JDK) 1.7.0_45 (64 bit)

n Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.0_45 and Developer Kit (JDK) 1.7.0_45 (32 bit)

n PostgreSQL 9.1.6

n Apache Tomcat 7.0.28

n PRPC 7.1.2 Personal Edition

PrerequisitesBefore installing Personal Edition, confirm that your workstation meets the following prerequisites:

n Intel-based personal computer or laptop with at least 2GB+ of free RAM running a 32-bit or 64-bitversion of Microsoft Windows 7

n 20 GB of free disk space

n Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher

Installing Personal Edition1. From your installation kit, download the appropriate Personal Edition Zip file for your version of

Microsoft Windows.

PRPC_PE_win32.zip for 32-bit

PRPC_PE_win64.zip for 64 bit

2. Extract the contents to a directory on your workstation.

This directory name cannot contain spaces.

3. In that directory, double-click install.bat.

4. When the Personal Edition Installation dialog window displays, click .

5. On the Overview and Prerequisites window, review the information carefully to ensure thatyour Personal Edition installs successfully.

6. On the License Agreement window, review the software license for Personal Edition and its third-party products.

7. The Components to be installed window displays. All of the components necessary for theinstall are pre-selected for you.

Optionally, if you do not want to automatically start PRPC when the installation completes, clear theLaunch PRPC checkbox.

Click .

8. On the Directories Selection window, browse for and select the location of the directory whereyou want to install the Personal Edition. Otherwise, it creates a PRPCPersonalEdition directory inyour local directory.

The directory you selectmust have at least 5 GB of free disk space andmust allow a non-administrative user to create instances in that directory.

Click .

9. The Port Configuration window displays the default port assignment that the Personal Editionuses for the Database and Tomcat.

Click to verify that the default ports are available. If there are conflicts, enter adifferent port number and run the check again.

Click .

10. Click to launch the install process.

Output and Error logs display in the window so you can monitor the installation process.

11. When the installation completes, a confirmation message displays.

Click OK.

12. Click to close the installation window.

13. If you accepted the default post install process to Launch PRPC, the PRPC login screen displayswhen the installation is complete.

If you did not select the default, see the Using Shortcuts to Start, Log in and ShutdownPersonal Edition section of this document for instructions.

14. Log in to the PRPC instance as Administrator@pega.com with a password of install to verifythat you can access PRPC. The Designer Studio displays.

Depending on your security level, one or more Internet Explorer Security Windows may display toprompt you to install one or more ActiveX controls required by PRPC. Repeat for each securitywindow that displays.

Personal Edition is now installed and ready for you to configure features and build applications.

Using Shortcuts to Start, Log in and Shutdown PersonalEdition

As you work with Personal Edition, you can stop and start the PRPC instance as you work through yourtesting and configuration. This allows you to free up the disk space used by PRPC when you are notactively using Personal Edition.

To do this, use the three PRPC shortcuts that were added to your desktop during the installation.

n PRPC 712 Start up starts the PRPC instance

n PRPC 712 Login opens the PRPC log in screen

n PRPC 712 Shutdown shuts down the PRPC instance

Starting Personal Edition

Use this shortcut to start Personal Edition when it has been shut down or when the Tomcat window isclosed.

1. Click the PRPC 712 Start up shortcut to start PRPC.

2. The start up process is logged in a CMD window.

When the server has started and displays the following message, you can launch the login shortcutto log into PRPC.

INFO: Server Startup in <nnnnnn> ms

3. You can minimize the Tomcat window but itmust remain open while you work in PersonalEdition.

Logging into Personal Edition

Use this shortcut to launch the PRPC signon screen after the server has started.

1. Click the PRPC 712 Login shortcut to display the signon screen.

2. Enter a User ID and Password.

3. Click Log In.

Shutting down Personal Edition

Use this shortcut to shut down the Personal Edition server after you log out of Personal Edition. This alsocloses the Tomcat window.

n Click the PRPC 712 Shutdown shortcut to start the shutdown process.

Uninstalling Personal EditionWhen you are finished with Personal Edition, you can easily remove it from your laptop.

Before you remove it, you can package and save your work into a separate file to import it into anotherPRPC application.

1. Save your work (recommended)

You can save the work in Personal Edition by using the Application Packaging Wizard to export yourwork including work objects and data. Save the export ZIP file to a safe location.

Select > Application > Distribution > Package to start the wizard. For details abouthow to use the wizard, see the Pega Discovery Network (PDN) article Migrating Applications withthe Application Packaging Wizard.

2. Backup your database (optional)

3. Close the Tomcat and logging windows

4. Remove Personal Edition

Delete the PRPCPersonalEdition program directory that was created during the installation.

Delete the three Personal Edition shortcuts on your desktop.
