What is a programmable room thermostat?Aprogrammableroomthermostatisbothaprogrammerandaroomthermostat.Aprogrammerallowsyoutoset“On”and“Off”periodstosuityourownlifestyle.Aroomthermostatworksbysensingtheairtemperature,switchingontheheatingwhentheairtemperaturefallsbelowthethermostatsetting,andswitchingitoffoncethissettemperaturehasbeenreached.

So,aprogrammableroomthermostatletsyouchoosewhattimesyouwanttheheatingtobeon,andwhattemperatureitshouldreachwhileitison.Itwillallowyoutoselectdifferenttemperaturesinyourhomeatdifferenttimesoftheday(anddaysoftheweek)tomeetyourparticularneeds.

Turningaprogrammableroomthermostattoahighersettingwillnotmaketheroomheatupanyfaster.Howquicklytheroomheatupdependsonthedesignoftheheatingsystem,thesizeoftheboilersandradiators.

Neitherdoesthesettingaffecthowquicklytheroomcoolsdown.Turningaprogrammableroomthermostattoalowersettingwillresultintheroombeingcontrolledatalowertemperature,andsavesenergy.

Thewaytosetanduseyourprogrammableroomthermostatisto find the lowest temperature settings that you are comfortable withatthedifferenttimesyouhavechosen,andthenleaveitalonetodoitsjob.

Thewaytosetanduseyourprogrammableroomthermostatisto find the lowest temperature setting you are comfortable with, andthenleave it alone to do its job.Thebestwaytodothisistosettheroomthermostattoalowtemperature–say18°C–andthenturnitupby1°Ceachdayuntilyouarecomfortablewiththetemperature.Youwon’thavetoadjustthethermostatfurther.Anyadjustmentabovethissettingwillwasteenergyandcostyoumoremoney.Youmaybeabletotemporarilyadjusttheheatingprogramme,forexample,“Override”,“Advance”or“Boost”.Theseareexplainedinthemanufacturersinstructions.

Programmable room thermostats need a free flow of air to sense thetemperature,sotheymustnotbecoveredbycurtainsorblocked furniture. Nearby electric fires, televisions, wall or table lampsmaypreventthethermostatfromworkingproperly.

Don’ts1. Donotinstallnearadirectheatsourceasthiswillaffectthe

workingsofthethermostat.2. Do not push hard on the LCDotherwiseyouwilldamage

theliquidcrystaldisplayandthisisnotrepairable.

Installation

The thermostat is designed to be flush mount, a back box of 35mmshouldhavebeensunkinthewallpriortoinstallation.

Step1Carefullyseparatethefronthalfofthethermostatfromtheback plate by placing a small flat head terminal driver in to the slotsonthebottomfaceofthethermostat.

Step2Placethethermostatfrontsomewheresafe.Terminatethethermostatasshowninthediagramsatthebackofthisbooklet.

Step3Clipthefrontofthethermostattothebackplate.

Icons Explained Symbol Description

Heat On Icon Shown when the heating is On Flashing when the optimum starts is in operation

Frost On Icon (Heating Off) Shown when the heating is switched off and is protecting against frost only Keylock Icon Shown when the keypad is locked

Floor Set Temperature Icon Shown when the floor set temperture is reached

Temperature DisplayRoom Temp=Thisisthecurrentroomtemperature.

SET=Thisisthetemperatureyouaretryingtoachieveinyourhome.

Setting the ClockTosettheclock,followthestepsbelow:

• Withthethermostatturnedon,presstheClockbuttontwice.• YouarenowabletosettheminutesusingtheUp/Down

keys.• PressHtoaccept.• YouarenowabletosetthehoursusingtheUp/Downkeys.• PressHtoaccept.• YouarenowabletosetthedayoftheweekusingtheUp/

Downkeys.• PressAtostoreandexit.

Comfort Levels ExplainedThePRT-EprovidesWeekday/Weekendor7DayProgramming.You should consult the “Configuration Menu” section to select therequiredmode.

Thethermostatissuppliedwithcomfortlevelsalreadyprogrammed,butthesecanbechangedeasily.Thedefaulttimesare:

06.00-21°C(Wake)08.30-17°C(Leave)16.00-21°C(Return)22.00-17°C(Sleep)

Ifyouonlywanttouse2levels,youshouldprogramtheunusedlevelsto--.--

• Tobeginprogrammingthecomfortlevels,pressClockOnce.• IfyourthermostatissetupforWeekday/Weekend

Programming,youwillseeMon-Frishown.For7dayprogrammingyouwillseeMonday.

• UsingtheUp/Downarrowkeys,entertherequiredWaketime.

• PressH.• UsingtheUp/Downarrowkeys,entertherequiredWake

Temperature.• PressH.• Youwillnowsee“Leave”.• Youshouldrepeattheprogrammingforeachperiod,

entering--.—forunusedperiods.

Note:Forweekday/weekendProgramming,the4comfortlevelsarethesameforallweekdays.For7dayprogramming,eachdaycanhave4differentcomfortlevels.

Locking The Thermostat

Thethermostathasakey-lockfacility.Toenablefollowthesesteps:

• PressandholdtheAandDownKeyfor10seconds.• Youwillseethelocksymbolappear.• Tounlock,repeatthestepsabove.

Temperature HoldThetemperatureholdfunctionisidealforpartiesorwhenyouwillbegoingoutforanumberofhours.Itallowsyoutoholdatemperatureforadesiredperiod.

• PressH.• UsingtheUp/Downarrowkeysentertherequiredholdtime.• PressH.• UsingtheUp/Downarrowkeysentertherequiredhold temperature.• PressAtoaccept.

YouwillseetheHoldindicationisdisplayedwhichwillcountdowntheholdduration.

Tocancel,reducetheHoldtimeto00hours.

Temperature SetUsingtheUporDownarrowkeysallowsyoutoadjustthesettemperature.Whenyoupresseitherofthesekeys,youwillseethewordSETandthedesiredtemperature.

PressAtoaccept.

HolidayThePRT-Ehasaholidayfunction.Thisallowsyoutoenteraholidaysetting.Duringaholiday,thethermostatwillmaintainthefrostsettemperature.Attheendofyourholiday,thethermostatwillrevertbacktotheprogrammedsettingensuringthatyourhomeiswarmonyourarrival.

• PressHthreetimes(Untilyouseethesuitcase).• UsingtheUp/Downarrowkeysenterthenumberofdays

holiday.• PressAtoaccept.

ThePRT-Ewillshowasuitcaseindicatingthethermostatisinholidaymode.Tocancel,reducetheHolidaydurationto00days.

Heat On / OffFrost Protect Mode:PressingthePowerbuttononcewillplacethethermostatinfrostprotectmode.Inthismode,thethermostatwilldisplaythefrosticonandwillonlyturntheheatingonshouldtheroomtemperaturedropbelowthesettemperature(seepage14)Shouldtheheatingbeturnedonwhilst in frost mode, the flame symbol will be displayed. To cancelthefrostprotectmode,presstheOnbutton.

Thermostat Off:Toturnthethermostatoffcompletely,pressandholdtheOffbutton.Thedisplayandheatingoutputwillbeturnedoff.Toturnthethermostatbackon,presstheOnbutton.

Factory ResetThethermostathasafactoryresetfunction.Thiswillresetallsettingsbacktotheirfactorydefault.Toperformafactoryreset,followthesesteps:

• Turnthethermostatoff(Seeabove).• PressandholdthePowerandUparrowkeyuntiltheLCD

powersup.Alloftheiconswillbedisplayed.Whentheyhavedisappeared,thethermostathasbeenreset.

Setting The Mode

ThePRT-Ehas4modes,theseareexplainedbelow:

Firstselectthebestmodewhichsuitsyourapplication,andthenfollowthestepsbelowtosetupthethermostat:

1.TurnoffthethermostatbypressingandholdingthePowerbutton.

2.PressandholdtheHkeyfor10seconds.3.UsingtheUp/Downkeys,youshouldselectthemode

required.4.PressAtoaccept.

THE FOLLOWING SETTINGS ARE OPTIONALAND IN MOST CASES NEED NOT BE ADJUSTED

Optional Features Explained

Feature 01 - Temperature Format:Thisfunctionallowsyoutoselectbetween°Cand°F.

Feature 02 – Switching Differential:Thisfunctionallowsyoutoincreasetheswitchingdifferentialofthethermostat.Thedefaultis1°Cwhichmeansthatwithasettemperatureof20°C,thethermostatwillswitchtheheatingonat19°Candoffat20°C.Witha2°Cdifferential,theheatingwillswitchonat18°Candoffat20°C.

Feature 03 – Frost Protect:Youcansetwhetherthethermostatwillmaintainthefrosttemperaturewhenthethermostatdisplayisturnedoff.Asadefault,thisisenabled.

Feature 04 – Frost Protect Temperature:Thisisthetemperaturemaintainedwhenthethermostatisinfrostmode.Therangeis07-17°C.Thedefaultis12°Candissuitableforalmostallapplications.

Feature 05 – Output Delay:Topreventrapidswitching,anoutputdelaycanbeentered.Thiscanbesetfrom00-15minutes.Thedefaultis00whichmeansthereisnodelay.

Feature 06 – Communication Address:Thissettingisusedwhenyouhaveconnectedyourthermostattoanetworksystem.Eachthermostatonyournetworkmusthaveauniquecommunicationaddress.Thiscanbesetfrom01-32.

Feature 07 – Temperature Up/Down Limit:Thisfunctionallowsyoutolimittheuseoftheupanddowntemperaturearrowkeys.Thislimitisalsoapplicablewhenthethermostatislockedandsoallowsyoutogiveotherslimitedcontrolovertheheatingsystem.

Feature 08 – Sensor Selection:Thisthermostathasabuiltinairsensor.Inmode00and02(asdescribedonpage13),thethermostatusesthebuiltinairsensorandcannotbechanged.Inmodes01and03youhavetheoptiontoselectfromthefollowingsensoroptions:

• 00=BuiltinAirSensor• 01=RemoteAirSensor• 02=FloorSensorOnly• 03=FloorSensors&BuiltinAirSensor• 04=FloorSensorandRemoteAirSensor

Feature 09 – Floor Limit:Whenthethermostatisoperatinginmode01and03(asdescribedonpage13)andfunction08issetto02,03or04,function09becomesavailable.Youcanthen set the maximum floor temperature limit - 20-45°C (28°C default).

Feature 10 – Optimum Start:Optimumstartwilldelaythestartupoftheheatingsystemtothelatestpossiblemomenttoavoidunnecessaryheating,sothatthedwellingiscomfortablywarmbytheprogrammedtime.Thethermostatusestherateofchange(seebelow)settingtocalculatehowlongthebuildingneedstotaketoraisethebuilding1°C(witharateofchangeof20,thethermostathascalculatedthebuildingneeds20minutestoraisethebuilding1°C).

Feature 11 – Rate of Change:Forinformationonly.

Feature 12 – Weekday/Weekend or 7 Day Programming:Thethermostatofferstwoprogrammingmethods.Weekday/Weekendallowsyoutoprogram4comfortlevelsfortheweekdayand4differentcomfortlevelsfortheweekend.In7dayprogrammode,eachdayhas4comfortlevelsthatcanbeprogrammedindependently.

Adjusting the Optional Settings1. To access the configuration menu, turn off the thermostat

bypressingandholdingdownthePowerButton.Then,pressandholdtheClockbuttonuntilthedisplaylightsup.

2. Thesmallnumberisthefeaturenumber,thelargenumberisthesettingvalue.

3. Usetheclockbuttontocyclethroughthefeatures.4. UsetheUp/Downkeystochangethesetting.5. PressAtoacceptandstore.
