A FRESH START AND JOYFUL ENDING Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Psalm 100:2
The 15 children at the orphanage in Liberia have learned the secret to joy in the midst of crisis and pain. It’s a secret we would love to share with you from the mouths of babes. When our team traveled to Liberia, in July, our focus was on spending time with the children. Our main goal was making them smile. We also wanted to confirm that the orphanage was a Christ-centered orphanage. Truthfully, I wanted to hear the kids sing in the morning. That was my favorite memory from our trip in 2012. Starting with our first morning we weren’t disappointed. We were awakened each morning by the precious song of “Good Morning, Jesus.” As the children sang several of us quickly got out of bed, walked to the children’s room, and just enjoyed their 30 minutes of worship, Bible quotations, and prayer. It was the perfect way to start a day, but each day’s ending was even better. At the end of the day the children danced, worshipped, clapped their hands, and often performed a concert of songs. This was followed by more memory verses, a child sharing their personal story, and prayer. So what’s the secret? Worship God with gladness and get to know Him through His word!
Defend the weak and the fatherless, uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.—Psalm 82:3
