• Dropped and falling objects present a constant risk when working at height inthe oil and gas industry.

• Energy sources such as gravity, wind and mechanical motion can instigate asequence of events that result in something falling.

• Corrosion, lack of awareness and inadequate inspection are the cause ofdropped object incident. Statistics show that around 30% of all droppedobject incidents are related to design, technical or mechanical issues butalmost half can be attributed to human factors.

• To stop the objects from falling, tools must be tethered. Tool tethering is fallprotection for tools. It ensures that tools are secured. The emphasis with tooltethering is on protecting the employees.
