Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the term, staff have been evaluating the
success of the multi-sport program held at East
Hills Public School. Unfortunately this program
will no longer be operating at school. Instead
our teachers will conduct weekly sport skills
and fitness sessions with students. If you have
made payments for terms 2,3 and/or 4 please
be advised that these will be held as fees in
advance and automatically allocated against
other planned school activities such as
excursions or incursions or against any
outstanding fees owing.
Over the term as a whole school community we
have worked closely together to create our
school vision and school plan for 2018-2020.
Our three strategic directions chosen are
Evidence Informed Teaching and Learning,
Connected Communities and Empowered
Learners. Our school leaders are very excited
and very much engaged with the school plan
and look forward to giving you more information
along our three year journey. The vision
statement that we created with school
community input is below.
East Hills Public School Vision Statement
To be an educational centre of excellence where
evidence informed teaching and learning is central
to developing, informed, engaged and self-
regulating citizens who can effectively communicate
and make authentic connections with themselves
and the wider community. Our students are skilled
for living empowered philanthropic lives.
As a whole school community we need to work
hard on developing the general knowledge and
vocabulary of our children. We sometimes
assume they know more than what they
actually do. Our teachers are responsible for
creating relevant and significant learning
experiences which stimulate discussions,
reflection and higher order thinking. Parents
also play an especially important role here.
Dinner table conversations, weekend
excursions, road trips and shared experiences
help build important ‘field knowledge’ for the
students which they draw upon across a range
of subject areas. It is important to remember
that over the upcoming holiday break your
bushwalk in the mountains, the parent – child
muffin baking session, your living room debrief
on what the weather will be tomorrow, or giving

your child your favourite memory will provide
important ‘meaning making’ opportunities. Our
children are like sponges and they grow and
learn by doing, talking and sharing.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy term 1
holiday break including our staff who will use
the break to rest and recharge. Thanking you
all for your support and collaboration over the
term.

CHANGES TO ASSEMBLY IN TERM 2
Thanks to the community who provided
feedback on our survey about the current
format of our Friday assembly. The survey
responses have led us to change the current
organisation of assembly. The assembly will
remain on a Friday and will begin at 9 am,
straight after lines. K-2 and 3-6 will attend
separate assemblies, on alternating weeks
beginning with our first K-2 assembly in week
2.
DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY
If your child has been selected to represent
East Hills Public School by competing in the
2018 District Cross Country Carnival on
Wednesday 2 May 2018, please return the
permission slip, together with payment of
$14.00 by COB Friday 13 April. Please place in
a sealed, clearly marked envelope and bring to
the office.
DANCE UPDATE
2018 has seen the students of East Hills Public
School begin their dance education with a
bang! They have been focusing on their
travelling sequences and have been learning to
use them to connect various movements using
transitions. Each class has already begun
working on their class performance for our
annual East Hills Public School Creative Arts
Concert. Miss Hickman was so impressed with
the number of students that auditioned for
dance troupes this year, that she accepted all
students and created four troupes.
We have the following groups representing
East Hills Public School in dance this year:
Senior Diamonds (Years 3-6)
Junior Opals (Years 1-2) (Schools Spectacular
audition group)
B Boys Onyx (Years 3-6)
Junior Pearls (Years 1-2)
Miss Hickman is so excited for the year ahead!
The confidence and enthusiasm of the students
at East Hills Public School during dance is
heart-warming, and she cannot wait to see
them all on stage again at the end of the year.
Happy dancing!
PSSA SPORT REPORTS
Netball
After our break over the Easter weekend, our
junior and senior teams were excited to play.
Our matches were against Revesby South. In
the juniors, Ameena did a great job trying to
defend some very tall players and Malak is
improving her knowledge of positions every
week. We ended up going down in a tough
match 19-0. The seniors put up a brave fight,
with some impressive circle passing from
Jacey and Fatima. Our team lost 35-0 but the
score does not reflect the effort and
determination of the girls.
Well done on some great matches this term
netball teams!
Touch Football The junior and senior touch football teams had
one of their best performances of the year last
week. Despite losing their respective matches,
they are beginning to play some attractive footy
and managed to score some brilliant team tries.
The results against Milperra were:
Juniors: 2-8 Loss

Seniors: 3-7 Loss

Vale of Ah (Field 3)
Keep up the good work boys.
Newcombe Ball -. Last week we played against Panania Gold at
home. It is clear to see how both juniors and
seniors are getting into the spirit of the game.
The juniors bounced back from 15-2 loss to win
14-13 and claim a draw. The seniors
unfortunately lost both games. As a surprise
act of kindness, Panania awarded Minhad
player of the match. Minhad was given a
chocolate Easter egg. Mr Ko is still waiting to
receive an award for ‘best coach’.
