program in basic, translational, or clinical research– serves as a career mentor to help in transition from fellowship to
faculty
Role of AMSPDC:PSDP Committees
• STEERING COMMITTEE– AMSPDC representatives– Funding agency representatives: AAP, APS, MOD, Sick Kids,
St. Jude’s
• PROGRAM EVALUATION COMMITTEE– APS representatives– SPR representatives– NICHD representatives
• SELECTION COMMITTEE– AMSPDC representatives– Basic and clinical science representatives– Steering Committee representatives
Benefits to AMSPDC Chairs
• Faculty recruitment• Enhancement of your department’s strengths
in clinical, translational, or basic research– liaison with other depts.– well-trained faculty member
• Contributing to the continental network of pediatric physician-scientists
• Nurturing the next generation of academic pediatricians

New Initiative: Timing of Application
• Application as PL3 or PL4 for those sub-specialties requiring 1 year of clinical training– endocrinology, infectious diseases, pulmonology
• Application as a first-year fellow for those sub- specialties requiring 13-24 months of clinical training– cardiology, critical care, PEM, neonatology
• Must have letter from fellowship director stating the duration of clinical training
Applicants Proposing Patient-Oriented Investigation
• For those applicants training in patient-oriented investigation (clinical or translational), an option for 10% clinical time will be considered, provided that the grant proposal details explicitly– how the clinical time is to be spent– what is the population to be seen – why the clinical time is essential to the research project
