Please find attached a pack of work to help prepare you for Sixth Form. I am delighted that you have shown an interest in Psychology. b. Psychology in the News. Remember: Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. Instructions: Over the period of one week, find 5 articles in the news that link to psychology. The news stories you choose need to link to people’s thoughts and/or their behaviour. E.g. their mental health, emotions, their behaviour, abnormal behaviour, treatments offered/taken etc. Create a poster consisting of your 5 articles (include the headline and a picture for each). You also need to reference your sources either on the poster or below it. See the example poster on the next page.

c. Case Studies.

Instructions: Choose ONE of the following case studies to research. Create a PowerPoint presentation about your chosen case study.

1. Clive Wearing – The man who forgot. 2. Little Albert – the boy who was taught to fear white rats 3. David Reimer – The boy who became Brenda after an accident 4. Phineas Gage – the man with a hole in his head 5. Jodie Miller - the girl with half a brain

Your presentation must include the following:

• A title slide (i.e. The ‘Title’ by ‘Your name’).

• An introduction. E.g. say what a case study is (i.e. give a definition) and then say which case study you will be presenting information about.

• Background to case study.

• Investigated by which psychologist? (For choices 2 and 3).

• What was found from the case study and what conclusions were made?

• Do you think the study of this person was ethical? Yes? No? Arguments for and against such research.

• A quick quiz to check what your audience has learnt.

• A bibliography – list your information sources.

Psychology Text Books. Once the term starts, we recommend that you have purchased your own copy of the recommended textbook for your chosen course. Other book, revision guides are available, but make sure that they are AQA approved and cover the specification for first teaching in 2015.
