What Do You Already Know?

I. Origins

The actual beginning of the Hindu religion is hard to trace.

It was brought to India by the Aryans as they invaded the subcontinent around 2000 B.C.E.

II. Beliefs

-Reincarnation (Samsara): Rebirth

-Dharma: Your duty and ethics in life

-Karma: The idea of cause and effect. Your actions dictate either a positive or negative consequence.

-Moksha: Reunion with the universal spirit

III. God/Deity

Hindus believe in one Supreme Being. Though, this one being has many manifestations.

The three main deities are:

Brahma- The Creator

Vishnu – The Protector

Shiva- The Destroyer

IV. Holy Books

-The Vedas “Books of Knowledge”

- The Upanishads
