Dear Parents and Carers’

Regional Athletics Carnival

Monday saw three of our students representing the Ryde Zone at the Regional Athletics Carnival. This

is a huge achievement as the region covers Gosford to the Blue Mountains and down to the Northern

Beaches. Our students did exceptionally well with Daniel C. gaining 12 th place. 9yrs 100m, Tanna K.

gaining 10th 9yrs100m and Bede B. coming 2nd 8yrs100m. Bede D. will now represent the Region at

state level. Congratulations on an outstanding job!

Play It Loud

Friday evening saw our talented musicians performing before a very appreciative audience. We

enjoyed two outstanding violin solos from Riley L. and Jonathan L, two exceptionally talented

performers. We were entertained with performances from our Training Band and our Concert Band as

well as our Junior Guitar Ensemble, Senior Guitar and Percussion groups. To put on a performance such

as this takes many hours of practice and all our musicians should be congratulated on such an

outstanding effort. Our thanks to the band committee who organised this event with special thanks to

Masako Dunn for bringing it all together and to Amanda Thomas who again gave her time as Master of

Ceremonies for the evening.

School Holidays

The last day of school this term is this Friday 28th September. Students return on Monday 15th

October. This is the change over for summer uniform. Unless the weather is unseasonally cool all

students should return in full summer uniform. Have a safe and enjoyable break.

Tell them from Me

Each year we survey our parent community to help inform our strategic directions. The Tell them from

Me Survey is anonymous, voluntary and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire

covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school.

Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the

school’s support of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use

for practical improvements.

The survey will close this Friday 28th September.

Enrolments 2019

Enrolments are now being finalised for Kindergarten 2019. Invitations for Homelink will be sent home

this week. If you are intending to enrol your child at Truscott Street next year and have not returned

the enrolment form could you please do so this week.

Grandparents Technology Session

Dash and Dot, our new robots and our VR kit are so much fun and we would like to teach our grandparents how to use them. There will be a session in the hall on Thursday 18th October 9:30 - 10:30am for all grandparents. Our younger students will teach any grandparent how to use the robots and experience Virtual Reality using the VR goggles.

Sequin Sessions

Dance group parents are invited to come along on Tuesday 16th October to glue sequins onto costumes ready for Ryde Schools Spectacular. There will be two sessions in the staffroom. 3:40 - 4:40pm and 6 - 8pm. I will provide sequins and glue guns. If you have a glue gun bring it along as I only have 3. Come along and make your child’s costume shine.

Plastic Bottle Tops

It is almost time to make the bottle top mural. I need more pink, purple, yellow and orange tops. Thank you every-one who has sent in bottle tops.

Bees

4/5B, 5/6 F and 5/6 N learnt all about bees as pollinators earlier this year. After their research and persuasive text to Mrs Blomfield, a hive of Australian Native Stingless Bees will arrive at our school this week. The bees will pollinate our plants and provide educational opportunities for all students. Michelle Shannon

Assistant Principal

P&C News

Thanks to all those who visited the uniform shop during any Tuesday afternoon in the last few weeks. The Tuesday trial period is now over, so we return to usual operating hours - Friday 8:30 - 9:15. I've been asked to remind all drivers to be very careful around the narrow, congested streets surrounding the school. Excited children, narrow streets and drivers on mobile phones don't mix well. I'm guessing we like our kids to be excited and I expect it will take a while for the council to make some changes to the streets, so to change the mix, we must keep / put our phones away.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Truscott Debaters

On Wednesday last week the debating team travelled to Putney Public

School to debate the topic—’Handwriting is a necessary skill’, acting as the

negative team. Annaliese R was the first speaker, Rosie O second, Saffiya B

third and Sadie S team advisor. We had a lot of fun debating against the

other team and presented arguments that were well executed and

researched, even thought it was hard to find information on the topic.

After the debate, we had a delicious morning tea with the opposition, as

well as Miss Buckland and the Putney teacher. We had to be very quick

witted with the rebuts as they presented a strong side and we had to work

together while listening in as well. Eventually we came away with a

successful debate. Thank you Putney for hosting an amazing day.

Saffiya, Rosie, Annaliese and Sadie
