What is fertilizer ?• Fertilizer is a material that is added to the growing media and
plants to provide for the necessary plant nutrient so as to produce well
• In the fertilizer should be noted that given the amount of fertilizer
Benefits of fertilizers:
• 1. To fertilize plants• 2. Soil fertility• 3. Accelerate plant roots• 4. Increase the plant roots• 5. Extend the plant roots• 6. Strengthening of plant roots
Fertilizers based on origin
• Organic Fertilizer• Synthetic fertilizers
Natural fertilizers• Animal manure / dung• Green manure• Compost
Advantage using natural fertilizer
• Able to contributed mobilize nutrients already in the soil.• Cheap• Quality is better• Maintain soil moisture• Improve soil structure • Help prevent topsoil erosion which is a layer containing many
nutrients
Disadvantage using natural fertilizer
• Amount is limited• The growth of organic fertilizers for longer than chemical
fertilizers• Smell is bad
Advantage using synthetic fertilizers
• Elements contained quickly unraveled• More rapidly absorbed by plants• Fertilization is relatively easy to do• Intensive fertilizing plants easier , because chemical fertilizers
has been on a particular type of element
Disadvantage using synthetic fertilizers
• As rapidly decompose in nature , so as to obtain optimum efficiency of fertilization should correct dosage
• Time to fertilization must often because fertilizers is not stored long in growing media
• Relatively expensive• In the long term use can lower soil pH • Substances and excessive fertilizer not absorbed by plant
waste waters and can cause a population explosion of algae or water hyacinth
