    SETTELMENT

HISTORY Puri, the holy land of Lord Jagannath, has many names. It is possible that Puri is a shortened name for Jagannath

    Puri or Purusottama Puri.

More and more people , generally devotees, started residingnear Jagannath temple.

Various houses; new and old ones started coming up. Weselected a house which is 2 km away from the JagannathTemple. We selected that particular house because thathouse was planned 80 years ago and is the perfect exampleof how the built form undergoes transformation with timewith change in age, number, economy of family residing inthat built form.

    PASSAGE

    - THIS HOUSE FACES NORTH-EAST WHICH IS PERFECT ACCORDING TO VAASTU.

    - THE CENTRAL COURTYARD, BED ROOMS AND LIVING ROOM ARE RIGHTLY PLACES.

    - THE KITCHEN IS ALSO PARTIALLY IN THE RIGHT PLACE THAT IS TOWARDS NORTH

    WEST.

    - HOWEVER THE GUEST ROOM IS WRONGLY PLACED. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE N-W BUT

IT LIES TOWARDS WEST WHICH AFFECTS THE PERIOD OF STAY OF THE GUEST.

    - STAIRCASE , DINNING HALL AND TOILETS HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY PLACED.

    - ONE MAJOR VAASTU DEFECT IS THE PLACING OF THE UNDERGROUND WATER TANK IN THE

HOUSE. IT SHOULD NEVER BE IN THE S-W BECAUSE S-W IS SUPPOSED TO BE HIGHER.

Dr. Nachiketa Mishra's House is one very good example of ahouse with optimum sizes in Puri, close to the temple.

It serves him his function of being a doctor very well because ofits location on the temple road.

The house naturally evolved with the growing needs of thepeople and with the increase in no. of family members in lieu

of the growing urbanization in Puri.

The family living here is happy and did not have any kind ofproblems in residing here.

Currently they have also given a part of their house on rent.

The house is climatology also stable as it was very cool and breezy

inside even when it was sunny and sweaty outside. It was one of the most well-off houses in Puri. the oldness of its

planning does not come out in its facade or external characters

but it does arise in its planning evolution and to some extent in itsmaterials like the wooden ceiling on first floor.
