Die neue Generation der Autobetonpumpen

Not simply improved,but completely redesigned

Fifty years of experience in the develop-ment of concrete pumps means innovati-ons time and again. These innovationsrevolutionise the pumping and deliveringof concrete. This is always based on thetried and tested, robust concrete pumpsfrom Putzmeister, which are constantlybeing improved upon and adapted tomeet modern demands. With the truck-mounted concrete pumpsfrom the new generation, we have goneone step further: We took the basic ideaand then completely re thought and rede-signed it. Countless suggestions fromcustomers, operators, suppliers andPutzmeister employees have flowed intothe project. From this emerged an inno-vation that is setting standards on themarket.

No fear of the scalesThe resulting new design, from the boomtip to the base structure, makes a grossweight of less than 26 t (36-4) resp. 32 t(42-5) possible, incl. sufficient reservesfor payload, equipment, water and fuel.

■ A gross weight of less than 26 t(36-4) resp. 32 t (42-5) incl. sufficient reserves for payload andoperating materials

■ Steady boom, thanks to the intelli-gent installation of the delivery lineand the harmonious, continuousrigidity of the steel structure

Better in every respectThe concept for the new generation wascompletely revised and scrutinised, always with the operator in mind. Thetruck-mounted concrete pumps from thenew generation have gained increasingimportance when it comes to operation, safety, operating costs and service inparticular.

Calculated and testedAll essential components have been cal-culated using modern methods.Extensive field tests verify the maturityand reliability of the machine.

■ Improved safety, thanks to compli-ance with all the valid standardsand codes of practice

■ Service-friendly as a result of itsoptimised accessibility andconsistent screw concept

■ Lower service costs thanks to maintenance-free components, fewer special components andlower volumes of functional fluids(oil volume reduced by 300 l (42-5))

The use of long-reach boom pumpsincreasingly depends on whether con-struction sites have enough space toensure the secure installat ion of themachine. Putzmeister concrete pumpshave decisive advant ages due to theirsmall operating footprints: ■ Minimum extent of supports with use

of OSS (assistance device for one-side support, optional)

■ This minimises the obstruction oftraffic. Time and costs for blockingoff the road are saved.

Boom and base structure – perfectly matched for economic uses

An M 52-5 at the construction of the EuropaCenter in Hamburg – thanks to OSS, the tightsetup space is not a problem

Putzmeister large boom pumps from the50 m class and higher are equipped witha variable-position telescopic support.OSS enables optimum use of the longhorizontal reach of the boom, as thework ing area increases significantly. This means the pumps are suitable bothfor large construction projects and forsmaller construction sites, can be usedto their full potential and are economic.

The variable-position telescopic support (e.g. M 52-5) expands the usable space by 43 % beyond the extended working area

Putzmeister added value in quality and technology

Tough construction site practice makeshigh demands of the strength of booms.Yet at the same time, they are expected tobe as light as possible to allow for weightreserves on the truck for accessories andequipment. Combining the two is a bigchallenge, which comes into play evenduring the design and constructionphase of the boom and base structure. For example, when designing booms, aspecial piece of software is used todeterm ine the optimal boom kinematicsfor the respective purpose, and a modern3D-CAD software program or FE ana ly -ses are also used. In our production sites for booms andbase structures, the latest welding robotsare used, ensuring perfect welds andconsistently high quality. For over 50 years, the user-friendly andefficient pumping of concrete has beenclosely linked to innovations and ideasfrom Putzmeister. To ensure that theseinnovations also function reliably in thelong-term, components and new devel -opments are subjected to numeroustests, such as■ Lifetime simulations for placing

booms■ Wear tests for delivery lines,

spectacle wear plates, etc.■ Pulse tests and burst pressure tests

for delivery and hydraulic hoses■ Climate, temperature and spray tests

for whole machines and components– ensuring that a concrete pump canbe operated between – 15 °C and + 50 °C in accordance with standards

■ Performance tests and continuousload tests, etc.

Booms are constructed in modern workplaces –quality from the outset.

The components are put together in efficient string-of-pearls assembly.

Hardness testing in the cold chamber at minus 25 °C. Putzmeister pumps can deliver concrete even atthis low temperature.

When the joystick is turned, the end hosemoves precisely up or down proportion -ally. A great advantage when concretingformwork or abutments. When large foundations are being con-creted in layers, the end hose must beprecisely threaded into various places inthe reinforcement in succession.A concrete pump with EBC is consider -ably quicker and its concrete placementperform ance is significantly greater.

EBC – Ergonic® Boom Control – for increased concrete placement performance

The innovative EBC control system fortruck-mounted concrete pumps(Ergonic® Boom Control) was the first ofthe Ergonic® systems and revolutionisedboom control. Aided by a computer, theplacing boom can be easily and precis elycontrolled. Moreover, the concrete place-ment performance of the concrete pumpcan be increased.

The concrete pump operator is unbur - dened and can concentrate better on hissurroundings and the movement of theend hose. The boom is precisely movedhoriz ontally and vertically by simplemovements of the joystick with OneTouch Control.

A real advantage: no need to change yourgrip, no additional switchovers ofindivid ual arms.

The pumping process is optimised bythe damping of boom vibrations and anintelligent working range restriction. Theboom and end hose are very smooth, allowing the concrete pump operator towork the construction site more precis -ely. The boom is also prevented from col -liding with itself in critical positions withEBC (Ergonic® Boom Control).

EBC is standard with the 60 m class andabove!

The advantages of EBC at a glance:

■ Precise concrete placement withhigh output

■ Blocking critical areas reinforcessafe working

■ Simple boom control unburdensthe operator

■ Smoother end hose thanks tovibration damping

■ Improved ergonomics with OneTouch Control

■ Precise vertical control of the endhose with a simple turn of thejoystick

■ Increased operational safety dueto semi-automatic folding in/out

■ Computer-aided arm control optimises concreting

■ High machine availability thanks to high-quality components andrapid diagnosticsImportant note: Ergonic® Boom Control makes work easier and

optimises processes, but has no safety function. The operator remains responsible for his work.

Precise concrete placement with high output

If the end hose is moved in a horizontaldirection only, its height remains con -stant during the concreting – regardlessof the angle of the truck (± 3°). EBC even compensates for a changingconcrete weight in the delivery line.

If EBC operation is preselected, dampingis automatically activated when the boomis moved. During pumping operations(without movement of the boom), damp -ing must be activated on the left-handjoystick. EBC then balances out vibrat ions in theplacing boom regardless of the deliveryrate. The still end hose can be movedmore easily and the concrete is cleanlyinserted – making life much easier forthe operator at the end hose.

With EBC, the vibrations are damped toabout 1/3:EBC reduces the vertical movement of theboom to about 1/3 and also damps the deflect -ion of the end hose in all directions.

without damping

Without EBC:Stop-start movements when the boom is mov ed and slewed and pump pulsations causevarious degrees of deflection in the end hose.

A working and movement range can bespecified for the boom. This range willnot be exceeded during subsequent con-creting. This represents an additionalsafety factor for indoor concreting oper -ations and is one less thing for the ma -chine operator to worry about.

with damping

The positions of arm 1 and arm 2 can belocked. Once the position has beensaved, the arms remain in their position, regardless of how the other arms aremoved. A preferred position can be set for thelast arm. This position is maintainedduring concreting.

On large booms of the 40 m class andbigger, EBC also damps torsional oscil-lation.

Further information about Ergonic® systems canbe found in our brochure BP 3763 GB.

In purely hydraulic control systems, there are valves, throttles, regulators, etc.that control all the functions. With EPS,all this is taken on by a computer. Fewhydraulic components are required, i.e.there is less energy loss in the systemand therefore less wear and a lower fuelconsumption.

EPS – Ergonic® Pump System – ensuring perfect operation. As standard with all BSF!

The computer-aided Ergonic® controlconstantly monitors and regulates theoperation of the concrete pump and thetruck engine. This means maximum pro-ductivity and performance with minimumintervention from the operator.

EPS (Ergonic® Pump System) hasconsid erable advantages over con vent -ion al hydraulic controls: it regulates theconcrete pump fully electronically andensur es that the pumping process runsperfect ly.

The advantages of EPS at a glance:

■ Smooth pumping process ■ Less noise emission and low fuel

consumption thanks to EOC■ Low wear ■ Vibrations in the machine and

boom are reduced■ Fully electronic control of the

concrete pump■ Fewer hydraulic components■ Doubly protected control ■ EOC (Ergonic® Output Control) is

included in EPS

The switchover of the transfer tubes, forexample, is adjusted to suit the consist -ency of concrete (PUMI®). This meansthat the concrete does not “strikethrough” the transfer tube, even if it is ofa very soft consistency.

Pump data, such as delivery pressure, delivery rate of the hydraulic pump, hyd r aulic pressure and many othersignals, is actively and perfectly co-ordinat ed. This is not really possible withconventional hydraulic control systems.

Better efficiency due to fewer hydraulic components

The truck-mounted concrete pumps of the new generation have a clear color display (Ergonic® GraphicDisplay). The figure shows the start screen with the most important pump data.

The pump operator can display importantinformation about the machine centrallyon the EGD (Ergonic® Graphic Dis play). The individual parameters for the machi-ne can be set here.

The doubly-protected electronic andhydraulic control system means that themachine can continue to be operated inemergency operation in most cases if amalfunction occurs.

The EGD contains further functions thatcan be accessed by the service andmaintenance personnel.

■ The slewing gear and boom arms canbe locked or released and the boomspeed set independently of the EBC.

The pump operator receives up-to-datefeedback and system displays for themachine directly on the clear display viaan additional signal transmission.■ The strength of the radio signal and

the battery charge state are shown bybars.

■ Relevant machine data, such asspeed of rotation, fluid temperature, concrete pressure, delivery rate andpressure and volume limit, can bequickly called up.

■ As well as EBC parameters, such asthe upper and lower limits of thework ing range and the slewing gearlimit, the vibrator and end hosesqueeze valve can also be switchedon and off.

Simple control and increasedoperational safety

Optimum and flexible operation of the machine with the radioremote control with display

Stationary concrete pumps with the S-transfer tube are continually settingnew world records in vertical and hori -zontal delivery. For example, in 2008 atthe Burj Khalifa/UAE concrete was pump -ed vertically over 606 metres! Even inthese cases both machines and acces -sories are still not operating at theirlimits. Even with difficult concrete theycan be count ed on to perform reliably oncontinuous duty.

Where ever extremely stiff and highlyabrasive mixes are encountered thissystem is used. Of course it is also avail -able with truck-mounted concrete pumps.

The S transfer tube can cope with extremely stiff and difficult mixes

The S transfer tube elephant – extremely wear-proof and ideal for difficult concrete mixes

The easy to dismantle collar allows for easyaccess for service work between the hopper andtruck

Thanks to the wedge closing device the reducer elbow opens and swings back quickly and easily, thusfacilitating cleaning. Photo shows optional equipment.

The S-valve is the first choice for con cretepressures above 85 bars. This is especi-ally useful for long pumping distancesover stationary pipelines.

The Putzmeister S-valve is especiallydesigned for long life and high concretepressure. This results in long serviceintervals and increased availability of the machine. To extend the life of the S-valve, the inside wall can be rebuilt by hard face welding.

The S-tube is suitable for the most dif -ficult concretes, such as stiff hydrocon-crete or mixes of crushed quartz, graniteor basalt. The range of consistenciesextends to K1 (1” slump) and screen sizesup to around 63 mm.

Free-flow hydraulics – a decisive benefit to pumping

The SN control system ensures a con-trolled movement of the material whichis typical of Putzmeister concretepumps. It avoids wear-inducing pressu-re peaks and increases the service life ofdrive, delivery line and fastenings.

The output of concrete is only moment -arily interrupted due to a fast initialpiston stroke and a powerful method ofswitch ing over the transfer tubes. Thismeans that the end hose can be directedcomfortably and easily. The quantity of concrete can be sensi - tively metered by a continuous regula -tion system even when only minimalamounts are involved at maximum pres-sure.

When large quantities of concrete arepumped, large quantities of oil flow inthe hydraulic system. This is where Putzmeister concretepumps with their free-flow hydraulicscome into their own.■ The closed oil circuit in the FFH

results in more performance and lesswaste of energy. This consum es lessfuel and is therefore moreeconomical.

■ Instead of interrupting the flow of oilwith a valve, an intelligent controlsystem switches the direction of theoil flow inside the hydraulic pump.

■ The lack of directional valves pre-vents unnecessary heating of the oiland also makes servicing easier.

■ All the oil flows in a closed circuitfrom the pump to the drive cylinderand directly back to the pump, whichmeans more output and less energyloss compared to an open systemwith a buffer oil tank.

■ Putzmeister concrete pumps arethere fore extremely powerful andconvenient to use due to theirmethod of power supply: A large oilpump together with a large drivecylinder is an efficient way whateverthe situation.

Extensive accessories and practical details make every job a complete success

Well equipped for all jobs: in spacious add-on con-tainers there is space for delivery hoses and acces-sories. (Fig. shows the option on the M 20-4)

A hydraulically lowered container makes work on the construction site easier. The delivery hoses anddelivery pipes can be removed at a comfortable height. (Fig. shows option for M 24-4)

Delivery linesPutzmeister delivery lines are designedfor cost-efficient, even wear from thehopper to the boom tip. This means thatpipes that are subjected to higher loadsare more wear-resistant than those thatreceive less wear. The delivery line canbe replaced as a complete unit withouthaving to sacrifice the remaining servicelife of individual pipes. This saves timeand money and ensures that the truck-mounted concrete pump has a highavail ability rate.

■ From the hopper to the boom tip,the entire delivery line is designedin such a way that all parts haveroughly the same service life.

■ The delivery line can therefore nor-mally be replaced all at once.

■ There are three different types ofdelivery line, which cater for indivi-dual requirements: • PM 40 – single-layer pipes• PM 2520 – two-layer pipes with

up to 5 times the service life of thePM 40

• PM 2520 Proline – two-layerpipes with up to 10 times the ser-vice life of the PM 40

High-quality wear partsDuring pumping operations, the ma -chines are subjected to a great number ofwear stresses from the usually highlyabrasive concrete. Putzmeister has de -veloped wear parts in various qualitygrades for different applications.■ DURO 22: inexpensive but with suf-

ficient service life for nearly all con -crete pump areas of application

■ Carbide: high degrees of hardness,2 to 4 times longer service life com -pared to conventional hard-surfacedversion

■ Heavy-duty casting: heavy-dutycasting does not have the same wearresistance as DURO 22, for example, but still has the distinct advantagethat it is resistant to cracks.

A cost-effective compressor with 455 l/min and 12 bar pressure which, thanks to its compact size, it was possible to fit behind the side underride protection (underride protection is obligatory when operating the vehicle in the EU; already included in the Power Kit). There is space for a powerful compressor (930 l/min, 10 bar) in the stowage compartment under thesuperstructure (not shown).

The mobile bypass filter extends service livesand makes savings on oil changes.

Pneumatically operated end-hose shut-off valve:compressed air squeezes the end hose closedand the flow of concrete is immediately stopped. This prevents any concrete from dripping out ofthe line when the boom is being slewed.

Spotlights for illuminating the four supportsmake setting up in the dark easier and faster.

Fleet management with DAISYPM DAISY offers complete fleet manage-ment in a single system – from orderreceipt to invoicing. There is the i-DAISY Internet-based ver-sion especially designed for customersoutside Germany. It facilitates themanagement not only of concretepumps, but also the company's entirevehicle fleet, including truck mixers, silotrucks, etc.The wear part module integrated into i-DAISY makes the operator aware of thenext TÜV (MOT equivalent) due date or

the lubrication programme for the ve -hicle, for example. i-DAISY can also becombined with the "vehicle location" and"route tracing" modules. i-GOT-U allows you to view the currentposition of your vehicles and see theroutes that have been travelled Thesystem also informs you by e-mail orSMS if a vehicle has left a geographical-ly defined area or the on-board computerhas been tampered with.Stolen machines have even been re -covered thanks to DAISY.

The folding spray guard on the hopper providesprotection against contamination from concrete. Its smooth plastic surface makes it easy to clean.

Technical data – booms

Large-volume pumps improvewear and filling rates

Large delivery cylinder volumes haveproved themselves, as they reduce thechange-over frequency and wear andincrease smooth running. The placingboom functions more quietly due to thesmaller number of change-overs madeby the pumping unit.

The important factors in this are the larg er diameter and corresponding stroke length, not a longer cylinder.Intake resist ance is thus reduced. Thefinest compon ents are not evacuated somuch, and even more difficult concreteretains its pumpability with a high filllevel.
