Welcome From The Academy

Dover Christ Church Academy opened in September 2010 and provides an exciting and aspirational learning environment for young people of all abilities between the ages of 11 and 19. With support from our sponsor, Canterbury Christ Church University, we have developed a vibrant learning environment within our Academy where we equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need for their future. Our aim and expectation is that all students will aspire to and achieve their best in all aspects of Academy life, become lifelong learners and are prepared to make a positive contribution to their community.

A unique feature of our Academy is the Aspen 2 unit, a district specialist provision for 40 secondary aged students with profound, severe and complex learning needs. Throughout their education journey at Aspen 2, all students benefit from the rich and varied inclusive opportunities that we are able to provide; opportu-nities that are made all the richer by our unique position at the heart of a mainstream Academy.

Pastorial Care

The Academy has a very experienced and dedicated team showing that pastoral care is as important to our staff and students as academic progress. We work closely with parents and students, building relationships from the moment that a student joins the Academy to prepare them for their journey of being life-long learners. There are four school houses within the Academy (Beaufort, Hurricane,Lancaster, Spitfire). Each house is led by a Head of House/Head of Year and supported by a team of Academic Support Officers.

Students are divided into tutor groups within each year group. Each tutor group meets daily from 08:55am to 09:15am. The tutors, led by a Year Leader, an Assistant Principal and supported by the Pastoral Team, deliver a comprehensive programme during these sessions to cover personal and social well-being, British citizenship, global citizenship and sex education. Across the year, students also have the opportunity toexperience workshops on these themes.

The Academy ensures that the needs of all students are met through individual support plans involving the pastoral team, senior leadership team, student and staff mentors as well as the work of outside agencies. Regular meetings are held with students and parents, depending on the support needed, with an aim to give students the tools to become well rounded, independent citizens.

Information for ParentsDover Christ Church Academy opened in September 2010 with an innovative curriculum and significant changes in operating systems designed to deliver a step up in the levels of student achievement.

Oversubscription CriteriaIf the number of preferences for the Academy is more than the number of places available, places will be allocated in the following priority order:

Supplementary Form RequiredNo

TransportPupils are eligible for free school transport if theylive more than three miles away from theirnearest school.

Students in Public Care.

Students with specific educational or social needs evidenced by professional advice.

Current Family Association - a brother or sister already attending the Academy at the time of entry. In this context brother or sister means children who live as brother or sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters, adopted siblings, stepbrothers or sisters and foster brothers and sisters. If siblings from multiple births (twins, triplets, etc) apply for a school and the school would reach its Published Admission Number (PAN) after admitting one or more, but before admitting all of those siblings, the LA will offer a place to each of the siblings, even if doing so takes the school above its PAN.

Nearness of children’s home to school. We use the distance between the child’s permanent address and the school, measured in a straight line using National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point data. Distances are measured from a point defined as within the child’s home to a point defined as within the school as specified by NLPG. The same address point on the school site is used for everybody.

No places will be allocated on the basis of ability or aptitude. The Academy is a comprehensive school for young people of all abilities and backgrounds.
