It was an incredibly busy month with the start of another school year. Thanks to our amazing Panther Staff, there are many things happen- ing already here at Parkhill-West Williams. In addition to the ongoing learning and activities in our classrooms, we have our Soccer and Cross Country Teams, Maker Space Club, Scholastic Book Fair, and our Colour House Program under way. Al- so, our Terry Fox Run was held on the afternoon of September 27th. What an awesome day and event. Thank you to all of our parents, guardians, family and friends for your donations to the Terry Fox Foundation in support of Cancer re- search. It was also great to see so many families out for our ‘Meet the Staff’ BBQ and evening. It was wonderful seeing so many of you again. This evening provides an excellent opportunity for students to introduce their teachers and the staff to parents and care givers. There are many opportunities for families to get involved in the PWW community. Our School Council and Home and School Association welcome new members at any time and will meet the first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in our Library-Learning Commons. Our next Home and School Association & School Council Meeting is on Monday, November 5th at 6:30 p.m. Thank you for your sup- port and together we can make a difference. October is shaping up to be just as busy as last month. We have completed two fire drills, a lockdown drill, and will complete a High Winds drill in the coming weeks. Buster the Bus visits on October 3rd to teach us about bus safety, Grade 7 Vac- cinations are on October 15th, Dental Screening is planned for October 24th, and Picture Retakes are scheduled for October 25th. The month of October also closes with the fun filled day and evening - Halloween! Each individual teacher and class- room will decide how they would like to celebrate the day. Teachers will send home information via their classroom newsletter or separate letter to advise what their class will be doing. One of my favourite holidays is Thanksgiving. I hope that you will be able to find time on this holiday to spend with your family and friends. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and Spooktac- ular Halloween Darryl Mann Principal

Please join us on Monday, November 5th at 6:30 in the library. Everyone is welcome!

From the Library Learning Commons… It has been a great start to the year in the Library Learning Commons! Students have been busy signing out some of our exciting new books and creating some amazing projects in our Mak-erspace area! We have just finished our fall Scholastic Book Fair! I would like to thank everyone who came out to support the book fair and helped to make it a success! We have been able to pur-chase some great new titles for our collection! New this year, we will be having "Makerspace Challenges" offered to our students throughout the term! Our first two challenges have already been put into action, with our students in grades 6 to 8 creating videos for a segment on Panther T.V., and our students in grades 3 - 5 designing and building puppet theatres for our younger students to use for drama presentations! Stay tuned for the next challenge that will be offered to our primary students! As we continue to develop our Makerspace area, we also still need some materials. Please think of us when you are recycling or purging items at your home! We really appreciate items such as: - paper tubes - marbles - tape - all kinds - glue sticks - plastic containers and lids - magazines - rice - any other items you think we could use to create stuff!!! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the school. Until next time... Until next time... Happy reading!

    Mrs. Hayter :)

Guitar Program As we launch into our guitar program this year, we are asking for donations of old (or new) gift

cards. We have a punch that we are able to create guitar picks out of old gift cards. One card can

make 5 picks! Any you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

    Mr. Rayner

Let’s Get Cookin’ We are hoping to get another Let’s Get Cookin’ program started at P.W.W. If you are able to volun-

  • School Drills As per Thames Valley District School Board policy schools are required to complete a variety of

practice drills in the fall and the spring. Fire, Tornado and Lockdown/Code Red. These drills

ensure we use proper procedures and provide the opportunity for reflection to improve safety for all.

Teachers will prepare the students by discussing procedures and answer any questions they may

    have.

Student Council This year, PWW has the largest group of students participating in the Student Council than ever be-fore! The amount of time, effort, and dedication each student put into their application packages im-pressed the judging committee so much, that we could not narrow the group down. Congratulations to everyone for their accomplishments; we look forward to a great year here at PWW!

Terry Fox Run: Thank you to all staff and students for their participation in this year's Terry Fox Run. Money raised by the students will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation. This year, the Student Council has funded three prizes per division. Award categories were: Most Laps Run, Biggest Fundraiser, and Terry Fox Spirit. Winners will be announced October 5. We hope to have surpassed last year's total of $512! Keep up the great work, PWW!

Parkhill and Ilderton Fair: We hope that everyone was able to get out the Parkhill and Ilderton Fairs in September. PWW was represented at both with a school display of the amazing work our stu-dents are doing everyday! If you weren't able to make it out to the fairs, please see the pictures of each display printed in the newsletter! Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Horne

Boys Soccer The boys demonstrated amazing energy and hustle during our soccer games at the tournament on

Monday. Lots of passing, communication, and teamwork. Unfortunately we lost all 5 of our games

but the boys showed good sportsmanship, perseverance, and had positive attitudes. Some amazing

goals were scored by Connor, Aiden S., Luke and Ty. Special thanks to our goalies Ben H. and Aid-

en K. Thanks to all the grade 6, 7, and 8 boys who came out and participated and never gave up!

Thanks for making coaching such a fun experience.

  • GaGa Ball Pit Thank you to everyone who purchased milk and pizza last year. We were able to purchase a Ga-Ga Ball pit for the students to play at recess. You will notice it on the Junior / Intermediate side. It's super simple. Basically, we throw a bunch of players and a ball in a pit. Turn up the music, everyone for him/herself; if the ball touches you below the knee, you're out. The last one in the pit wins. Then, everyone hops back in for the next round. Games last no more than five minutes. It's fast, it's sweaty and it's really addictive. As soon as you get out, you can't wait to hop back in. That's why they're all talking about it!

Pizza / Milk proceeds All proceeds from milk and pizza will go towards the purchase of an accentuated learning envi-ronment for the Learning-Commons. This provides students a dynamic place where they are of-ten given room to move– empowering them with choices of where to sit, how to sit and even when to sit. All to keep them more engaged, comfortable and productive. This is the schools big-gest fundraiser and we appreciate your support very much.

  • Panthers Colour Houses Goal: To promote a stronger sense of community and increase school pride and spirit here at P.W.W. Format: The entire school is divided into 4 houses. RED, GREEN, BLUE & YELLOW. Each staff member and student has been placed on a colour house. Students will be rewarded with “Panthers tokens” based on consistent demonstration of the monthly focus. Focus: This month the focus will be on RESPECT.

Colour House Assembly: Every month, two students from each classroom will be recognized for ‘Citizenship’. In addition, classes may share/perform to celebrate their character development learning, and student teams and groups will be recognized. The assemblies will run for approxi-mately 30 –45 minutes. Staff and students are encouraged to wear their colour to each of the cel-ebrations in support of their house. The students will sit with their houses not their homeroom classes.

    Respect

‘Maintain the dignity of every person’

A community that is respectful begins by understanding whom and what to respect and consid-er worthy of high regard and then act to show it in words or actions so that those events and individuals feel appreciated.

Positive interaction with peers, staff, etc. (Golden Rule) Attentive listening (during class, presentations, assemblies, etc.) Use of manners

Respect for property...neat desk, cleans up classroom
