Q & A Fact Sheet FOR BUYERS AND USERS Excelerate satellite solutions: New choices for customers This Q&A Fact Sheet has been developed by Excelerate Technology for those who are responsible for specifying, buying or using satellite-based communication systems in their roles within the emergency services. When it comes to high throughput satellite technologies, one product - such as KA or KU - may not meet all of an organisation’s individual requirements. There are clear trade-offs between throughput, efficiency, coverage, cost and resilience that must be considered when implementing any high throughput satellite solution. This is why Excelerate Technology has launched a new KA Satellite service called SuperSat, to broaden the range of products and services it is able to offer customers and give them the best solution to meet their needs, complementing the company’s ultra- resilient and highly-robust Enhanced Resilience Satellite Network (KU Service) that has proved so successful to date. Helping inform the marketplace We hope this Fact Sheet will help dispel some of the rumours and misinformation that have unfortunately crept into the industry about the relative merits of KA and KU solutions. Some satellite solutions providers are literally putting all their eggs – and those of their potential customers – in one basket by not providing all of the information and objective advice their customers need to make an informed choice during the system specification and purchasing stages. They are doing this because they do not have the kind of technical capability or the support and financial resources and infrastructure in place to be able to provide their potential customers with more than one basic solution that will inevitably fail to meet that customer’s real needs. At Excelerate Technology we believe this is WRONG so we hope this Fact Sheet will help arm our current and prospective customers with the intelligence necessary to ask any provider the right questions in order to expose any potential to mislead or confuse. It is Excelerate’s objective to be able to offer the best and most appropriate satellite networks and to be the most cost effective, fit for purpose provider of solutions, applications and networks to its customers over the whole life of any project - and not just in the short term. Q & A Fact SheetFOR BUYERS AND USERS

Excelerate satellite solutions: New choices for customers This Q&A Fact Sheet has been developed by ExcelerateTechnology for those who are responsible for specifying, buyingor using satellite-based communication systems in their roleswithin the emergency services.

When it comes to high throughput satellite technologies, oneproduct - such as KA or KU - may not meet all of an organisation’sindividual requirements.

There are clear trade-offs between throughput, efficiency, coverage, cost and resilience that must be considered whenimplementing any high throughput satellite solution.

This is why Excelerate Technology has launched a new KASatellite service called SuperSat, to broaden the range of productsand services it is able to offer customers and give them the bestsolution to meet their needs, complementing the company’s ultra-resilient and highly-robust Enhanced Resilience Satellite Network(KU Service) that has proved so successful to date.

Helping inform the marketplaceWe hope this Fact Sheet will help dispel some of the rumours andmisinformation that have unfortunately crept into the industry

about the relative merits of KA and KU solutions. Some satellitesolutions providers are literally putting all their eggs – and thoseof their potential customers – in one basket by not providing allof the information and objective advice their customers need tomake an informed choice during the system specification andpurchasing stages.

They are doing this because they do not have the kind oftechnical capability or the support and financial resources andinfrastructure in place to be able to provide their potentialcustomers with more than one basic solution that will inevitablyfail to meet that customer’s real needs.

At Excelerate Technology we believe this is WRONG so wehope this Fact Sheet will help arm our current and prospectivecustomers with the intelligence necessary to ask any providerthe right questions in order to expose any potential to misleador confuse.

It is Excelerate’s objective to be able to offer the best and mostappropriate satellite networks and to be the most cost effective, fit for purpose provider of solutions, applications and networks toits customers over the whole life of any project - and not just inthe short term.

Page 2: Q & A Fact Sheet - Excelerate Technology...managed VNO. Q: How is Excelerate’s service specifically tailored to the UK Emergency Services? A: We manage this service for our customers

Q: What is Excelerate’s KA Satelliteservice called and what are itsmain features?

A: SuperSat - our new KA satellite servicebeing offered in direct partnership withEutelsat - provides our customers withthe most cost effective, high speedand most extensive satellite coveragein the market today, and is ideal for organisations that need to communicateregularly in ‘normal world’ conditions.

Q: What is Excelerate’s KU Satelliteservice called and what are itsmain features?

A: Our Enhanced Resilience SatelliteNetwork – our established KU satellitesolution – delivers the most robust, resilient satellite service availableanywhere today – which becomesespecially important when riskassessment requires increasedresilience and a more immediatefailover plan.

Our Enhanced Resilience SatelliteNetwork consists of:

TWO satellite networks both coveringthe same geographical location. If onefails or becomes compromised, via ourfully managed virtual network operationscentre (VNO) we can move ourcustomers onto the second satellitenetwork, ensuring that connectionto satellite broadband is notcompromised. This satellite failoverprovision can only be provided byExcelerate and is inclusive as partof our satellite service offering toour customers.

TWO UK based teleports based indifferent geographical locations. Eachteleport is seamlessly interconnectedon a fully redundant fibre optic ring, where Excelerate hosts its own fully

redundant racks, identically populatingits individual customers VPN endpoints, video servers and cloudcomputing services, meaning thatour customers’ applications andcommunications are always operationalwith fast failover.

Unlike other providers we will provideunlimited usage to your broadbandconnection at a fixed cost per month. This ensures that the speeds ofbroadband are consistent and that atno time will your service level beaffected. Nor will you incur costs thatyou have not budgeted for.

In environments or at incidents whichdo require additional bandwidth,Excelerate can increase bandwidthprovision in real time via its fullymanaged VNO.

Q: How is Excelerate’s servicespecifically tailored to the UKEmergency Services?

A: We manage this service for ourcustomers ourselves in real time, 24-7,365 days a year which is a significantadvantage for our customers in termsof quality and continuity of service, since many other providers buy in thisservice from elsewhere. An exampleof where this becomes cruciallyimportant is during a major incident -we can provide our customer sites withan instant increase of bandwidthprovisioning in cases where it isneeded, whereas others cannot.

Q: So which is the best solution forthe majority of emergency servicescustomers – KA or KU?

A: Each customer will have their ownspecific requirements and no one sizeever fits all. However, Excelerate’s preferred recommendation for its blue

light customers remains its EnhancedResilience KU Network. To prove thiswe are resetting our entire KUcustomer base to be able to doubletheir current contracted speeds to upto 2MB download and up to 1MBupload at no extra cost to anycustomer. Existing SLA’s will remainthe same as they were. This underlinesour commitment to greater value forour customers.

Q: Where does Excelerate’s SuperSat KAsolution fit into the equation then?

A: Unlike other providers Excelerate hasrefused to jump on the ‘KA bandwagon’and has spent almost a yearresearching, testing and planning aKA solution that is properly networkaccredited by Eutelsat, totally fit forpurpose in terms of mobility throughoutthe entire satellite footprint andprovides the best value and coveragein the entire market.

Our auto deployable satellite antennais from a British manufacturer and isthe lightest, most compact and highestquality system we could source. Moreimportantly through vigorous testing,it is the fastest antenna to locate andlock on to our SuperSat service, and itworks every time.

This is why our SuperSat KA Servicewill be used in addition to our KUnetwork by our core emergency services market, most likely on smallervehicles.
