The contents page is very organized, con-
sistent with the house style. A common
convention that I have noticed is that
most contents pages have a main image
teamed with a few small images. There
are also page numbers to help with the
reader’s navigation through the magazine.
Furthermore another indication
that the publication is for an older
audience is the image to text ratio
as seen right. There is only one
image and lots of text. In my mag-
azine I want to create a compro-
mise and have text combined with
a few images in order to make my
magazine more interactive and
enjoyable for the reader.
The Q Magazine House Style is much more
formal in contrast with other magazine e.g.
NME which sport a more cluttered layout. This
could suggest a more mature demographic.
The typography is also quite formal . The col-
our palette is limited to red, white and black
as opposed to a variety of different colours.
The colour connotations suggest a magazine
of the rock genre as opposed to a pope maga-
zine that will incorporate more feminine soft
colours e.g. pink and blue.
Moreover another convention I noticed was of
the very sexualised images of female artists as
seen left and below. The photographic images
show the artist in a very provocative manner
which objectifies the artist and presents them
as a sex symbol.
