What is a

Surface Drive?

A propulsion device where the propeller operates on the water surface behind the transom of the boat.

Typically the propeller is only 50% immersed at operating speed.

The propeller shaft angle is low – typically around 6º - so offers more efficient thrust angle.

The propeller is specially designed to operate in this half-in / half-out manner and is more efficient than conventional propellers at speeds over 25 knots.

Appendage drag is reduced by more than 50% No prop shaft, skegs and rudders as on conventional drives

Only half the propeller is immersed

Only a fraction of rudder in water at speed

No entrained water to carry, as with Water Jets

Clever Housing Design

Propeller ventilates the instant of forward motion

Q-SPD always ventilates immediately – even with low closed swim

platforms.

Do not need vent grills in swim platform to ventilate propeller – the

drive housing instantly creates an air cavity above the propellers so the

propeller can pull all the air they need.

Will also operate perfectly in a closed transom pocket.
