Evaluation: Q1

In what ways does your media product, use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This is our horror magazine promoting our film that we have created, when creating this magazine we had to consider, how we would conform to the typical conventions of a horror magazine: This includes parts such as the colour scheme, main image, and Typography.

We used this Typography (Face Your Fears) in all of our media products to create synergy and consistency between them, this makes each product easy to link together for the target audience.

The Production Logo appears in all three media texts, this is using media convergence to advertise the company.

Here we used media convergence to advertise a competition giving readers the chance to win free tickets to Thorpe park “fright night” this follows in consistency with the horror theme and could help to draw some people into taking part. This adheres to media conventions.

Here we have used already existing media texts draw people into read the magazine as if they have previously seen any of these films and enjoyed then then this could make them want to watch our featured film.

This is our Theatrical Horror poster that advertises our horror film “the forgotten” We kept the colour schemes and typography all the same in all 3 media texts using synergy and media convergence to draw the audience in.

The Mask (Props) appears present in all 3 texts, here we are using mis-en-scene to create a link between all of our media products.

This is a billing board that we created for our horror poster, it lists the name of all the actors and main production team. This adheres to the conventions of horror products as on majority of horror posters a billing block will be present

This quote “MASKS HIDE MORE THAN JUST FACES” can be seen throughout all three of our media products, this can create fear or tension for the audience is also used consistency to create another link between the products.

This is usually another typical convection that can appear on magazines, posters and trailer, by saying COMING 2014 or TRAILER OUT NOW but not actually giving a specific date the production company are making the audience more interested in the film. This could lead them to purchase other products relation to the film

Here our Production logo is present at the start of our horror trailer this adheres to the typical conventions of horror products as the majority of horror trailers will have the production logo featured somewhere in it.

Remote locations such as woods, forests and abandoned houses are often seen in horror trailers, it is the fear of the unknown when they are in an unfamiliar place that scares the audience when watching horror films that contain these conventions

In this scene we become aware that the quality of the image becomes blurry and grainy this is a typical convention as seen in other horror films such as the Blair witch project and paranormal activity (Shown to the right) . It also gives the feeling of the camera being handheld so you are seeing the scene through someone else's point of view.

This scene shows one of the characters, in front of a mirror, with there hands in front of there face, this creates suspense and fear because this scene can become present in many horror trailers as the character cannot see the antagonist, and the audience do not know what is going to happen to this character.

This Final Scene uses the convention where the audience think it is over and then something happens to spike fear.
