Masthead• I had followed the convention of

having a masthead at the top of my front cover just under the cover model’s head. I had also kept to the convention of the whole masthead being the same font colour rather then challenging it by having the letters being in different colours. It is also a short and snappy masthead which makes it easier to read instead of it being a long masthead which may not attract my target audience.

Main image• It can be said that I have challenged

one of the conventions of a main image as the model of the image is looking away from the camera rather than looking to it like most, if not almost all magazines do. I have developed the convention of having a medium long shot for the shot of my image as it allows the viewer to see most of what the model is wearing and how their body language looks.

Main image cover line• I have conformed to the convention of

having my main image cover line being bigger than the rest of the cover lines on the front cover. This allows my target audience to differentiate the importance between this cover line and others. It can also be said that I may have challenged the convention by having a short cover line for my main image as I didn’t want to give to much away to my target audience. This is used in some magazines but not in many so this may just be a development of the idea.

Cover lines • I have used the convention of

having my cover lines on either side of the front cover page as it allows my target audience to see them clearly without having to search or think that they are something else. I don’t have many cover lines of my front cover so this is also a convention that I used from looking and researching about other music magazines.

Barcode • With the barcode that I had used

for my front cover, it challenges the convention as my barcode does not look any ordinary barcode as my barcode looks like a microphone on a stand. Also my barcode does not have my pricing on it so it further goes against the normal sort of barcodes that magazines use.

Pricing• On most magazines, the pricing is

usually put in the box that holds the barcode. Therefore I had challenged this convention by putting my pricing at the top left hand corner of the page as I feel that my target audience will be able to see the pricing easier so they’ll know or consider thinking about buying the magazine quicker than it being in the barcode box.

Issue date• With my magazine I had challenged

the convention of having my issue date at the left hand side just beneath the masthead. Whereas in a lot of magazines, they have their issue date in the same box where the barcode is. Though I have challenged the issue date in some aspects, I have also used the convention as I have made the issue date by using the month and the year instead of challenging it by for example putting the actual day it was published.
