MY MUSIC VIDEO

My music video is based on the narrative of a couple who once had a happy relationship but they are now going through a rough patch. The girl has fallen out of love with him and is not interested anymore but the boy is trying his hardest to get her back, reflecting on all the good times they used to have together. The video is set in both past and present time with some clips from the past where they were happy together and some in the future. I have shown this split time scale by making some of the clips in slow motion. The narrative gradually shows the 2 together and how they have fallen apart and the ending shows the 2 holding hands, but then they let go and it fades to black. The reason I have done this is to show how it isn’t a happy ending, much like ‘love’ or ‘fairy-tale’ themed videos, and that their relationship is no more.

WAS IT EFFECTIVE? From looking at my 3 products, I feel like the combination of my products are very effective as they all link in one way or another. I think I had an advantage of me being a Photography student as well as a Media student because this helped me a lot because of me having a lot of knowledge with Photoshop, therefore this allowed me to be able to use Photoshop with no trouble. To create my ancillary texts, I used my Canon 1100D, Photoshop CS6, Bridge, dafont.com and Google images.

To make my product effective, I wanted to link all 3 of the products in some way so I had both the ancillary texts following a theme of black and white, which has proved successful with my audience. Also, by featuring the artist in all 3 of my products, I feel like this has played a huge part in my product being effective because then the 3 products are more likely to be recognised as a package. Also, I linked my digipak and video together by incorporating the image of holding hands on my digipak into my video right at the end. By putting it right at the end, I feel like this has a strong effect on the audience as they will be able to identify this image from my digipak, encouraging them to remember and then link them together due to this. Doing all of these things allowed me to keep a strong and consistent link/theme throughout all 3 products so that they were effective for the audience.

WAS IT EFFECTIVE? ..CONTINUED

When creating my product, there were some key things which I had to remember in the process:

•Artist name and album title

• Main image

• The music label for my product

• Colour Theme

• Track list

• Style of presentation• The actor/artist appearing in

all 3 of my products (so it is more effective)

• Type of shots in my video• Mise-en-scene• Props

By remembering these throughout the creation process, I feel as though I have followed all of these key points and therefore my product has proven successful and I have created 3 effective products for the audience.

FEEDBACKHOW EFFECTIVE DO YOU THINK MY 3 PRODUCTS ARE WHEN PUT TOGETHER?

Will Bird, aged 18

I think the products link together really well and are effective, the colours and the themes throughout all of the products are consistent which makes them look cohesive overall.

Lauren Schofield, aged 18

All 3 products work really well together, there is continuity between all 3 products as the artist is features in them all. There is a clear black and white theme in your ancillary texts that reflect the mood of the song from your music video, therefore again showing continuity within the products making them really effective.

Lewis Stewart, aged 18

They all have similar shot uses and have the same artist in them, which I think makes them look effective as a whole. I really like how the magazine advert and the digipak are in black and white as this is very conventional of the indie genre.

Anonymous female, aged 18There is a very consistent theme throughout all 3 of your products. I like how the advert and the album are in black and white as this makes it look really effective and keeps a theme. Also, the use of your artist in all 3 makes it really effective because if you didn't have him in one of your products, I don't think they would link as well as they do. Lastly, I like how you have used the holding hands on the front and then how you have incorporated it into the end of your video. This makes it have a very strong link.
