Who would be the audience for your media product?

Target AudienceUsing my market research, I asked people who enjoyed listening to rap music to fill out this survey. From the evidence, it shows that 60% of the people who filled out my survey were male and 40% female. Obviously, this is only my research, and using my knowledge of rap, I know that the male percentage overall would be higher than 60%.

Also using the evidence from my survey, it showed that the age that listens to rap music is clearly people of a younger age. Predominantly 16 – 24, but obviously there are exceptions to this, as people who may be younger or older than these ages may listen to rap. But, it is predominantly I tried to target the ages between 16 – 24.

Why target this audience?I partly targeted this audience due to the research I did, but also, being a 16 year old myself, I know from experience of going to rap concerts that the majority of people there are around the ages of 16 – 24, with a few other people outside of this range. But also, it is predominantly males that go to these concerts, and also, it is predominantly males that listen to rap, but there are still many girls that enjoy it too. But, there are different types of rap, and some people may like one type and hate another, which makes it hard to target specific people, so I decided to target the whole range of rap. By writing rappers names at the bottom of my front cover, I could choose who I wanted to put there, and put a wide range of rappers to make it appeal to everyone.

Audience FeedbackHere I asked some friends, of the age range that I am targeting for some feedback on how it attracts the audience.

Alex Hemphill (Age 17) : “I liked the layout of the magazine, and the way you can easily get hold of their social media accounts is helpful as I use things like twitter a lot.”

Nathan Walker (Age 19) : “I thought the colour scheme throughout the magazine is good, as its consistent and looks neat.”

Will Firth (Age 17) : “The names of other rappers at the bottom of the page on the front cover looks good, as although they’re not actually in the magazine pages you made, you know the other stories that would be in it.”
