Q4: How did you use new media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and evaluationBy Fiona Bruce

• When in the construction stage of my media products.I have found that a number of features, softwares and hardwares played an instrumental role.

• The use of Photoshop was a very important element to my construction in which it not only helped me create a poster and magazine cover but also, helped in creating logo’s and had certain features in which meant I could put different effects on my text or imagery in which would help not only by making my film genre clear but also by making it stand out from others.

• As for the film trailer an important software to use was final cut pro in which helped me create a trailer and also helped me in developing skills in editing using different transitions and helping me to change position of shots and speed of the shots. It also helped in which creating intertitles for my trailer in which also had transitions.

• There was then the use of online software's such as Dafont in which helped giving me inspirations for my fonts in which link with my genre and also these fonts were free to download meaning you could not only test them on your products but could use them in your work without needing permission.

• After this was the use of Youtube. This not only helped me in the construction stage but also research and planning. It helped in construction by being able to find songs to use as the soundtrack to your trailer for example I used ‘your home address’ by the Answering machine in which gave me links to ask for permission for use of this track.

• Another use was that of the online software ‘Freesfx’ in which gave me access to some sound effects in which were useful within the trailer as they gave the trailer more depth.

• When filming this trailer there was a number of vital pieces of equiptment that needed to be used these consisted of a hd camera which meant I could film and store a number of different shots in high definition in which to rewatch. This not only meant that I had shots but also that I could rewatch the shots and refilm. Then was the use of the tri-pod in which was important as it meant I could keep the camera steady and secure but also I could film shots of different heights to show different ideas such as importance of character it also meant I could do a tracking shot.

• After this were the vital hardwares in which to use for creating print products such as the digital SLR cameras. These were important due to the fact they created images which could be attached to the lighting which create a image which links better with your genre.

• Then for another piece of hardware the Apple Imac. This gave me help in which I could use certain softwares which are not available on a ordinary windows computer.

• Within the research part of creating my own media products I used a number of online software’s.One of the main one’s I used to do research was YouTube. This was a useful software as not only could it give me ideas in my storyline and guide me in the genre suitable for the areas and objects/actors I could access but, it helped me by showing similar trailers in which I could learn from for the amount of shots needed within the trailer, mise en scene and sound ideas.Another way in which was useful was the way in which it also meant I could get feedback on draft products or get my secondary research from the genre’s target audience in which to use to develop Ideas this was useful as it was simple and could be responded to easily through social networking sites just by sending the url. Then another important online software was the online survey in which meant I could write up a questionnaire and get feedback quick and easy. This feedback was recorded and I could review it a week later and then easily document the responses and evaluate them. This I found was really helpful as the feedback gave me more ideas on the expectations of the target audience for my trailer and print products.

• Then was another online tool in which was the use of facebook in which made it possible for me to share my surveys and draft work with people I may not be able to get access to.This meant that my response was larger and I could be sure I was asking people within the target audience. This in which giving me a reliable and representative sample in which I could genralise my findings from.

• Then was the use of prezi. This in which has always been a large help for me when recording information in a more interactive way in which I could happily understand and work with when developing my product but, also would help me when reflecting on my progress in evaluation.

• There was then the use of Garage Band in which was a software in which I could create a soundtrack and the sound effects and experience what it is like to develop the sound within the trailer. This I found really helped me gain understanding of how to work with different instruments and sounds to create the sound in which puts the depth and understanding within a genre.I found this really helped my understanding when using Final Cut as they use a similar process.

• Without the use of Blogger I would not have been able to do any of this as it gave me the guide through what to do via teachers posts of what is expected and how to use certain softwares.I believe that without the use of my own blog aswell I would not have been able to record information and reread this information in which to make my own products and recorded every stage of my production.
