VISIT FROM ALAN DURANT! Last week we had a very special guest visit our school. Alan Durant, an author of fictional books, came to QAS to read to us. Alan Durant, born in Sutton, Surrey writes books for all ages including titles such as Kicking Off, Noah’s Shark, Little Troll, Big Fish, Little Fish and many, many more.

It was very exciting to have an author here reading one of his exciting tales, Burger Boy. Student Council also got an exclusive interview with Alan. He spoke of his journey from a writer to a well-known author across the world. In the interview, Alan discussed what inspired him to write and where his ideas came from. Alan left us with great advice, reminding us never to give up and with hard work comes success.

We would like to thank Mr. Durant for taking the time to come and see us. You can find out more about Alan and the many books he has written by visiting his website at http://www.alandurant.co.uk/.

Our first non-uniform day of the year was a complete success! Students, staff and teachers alike dressed up as their dream career. There were doctors, athletes, police officers, and much more. We raised an amazing 1705 QR! To help contribute to our food drive, half of the money raised was donated to Eid Charity to help in purchasing non-perishable food items. Thank you for your donations and school spirit.

Stay tuned for our next non-uniform day!

FOOD DRIVE Qatar Academy Sidra held a food drive during the month of November. Donations of sugar, oil, flour, and rice were collected for Eid Charity. Eid Charity is a charitable organization that provides a wide range of services to people in need in Qatar and elsewhere in the Middle East from food collection and distribution to the poor to supporting drug awareness and rehabilitation programmes. On Thursday, representatives from Eid Charity came to thank us for our hospitable donation and to educate us on what they do and how we could help. QAS also donated half of the proceeds raised from our non-uniform day. On behalf of Eid Charity and QAS, we would like to thank everyone for their donations.

We make a living by what we get, but we make life by what we give. - Winston Churchill

Author  Visit  with  Alan  Durant  In   our   Pre3-‐KG  Library   classes,   students   are   learning   about   authors,   illustrators   as  well  as  the  parts  of  a  book.    On  December  2nd,  there  was  a  special  buzz  of  excitement  at   the  BH  campus…  Alan  Durant,  an  Author   from  the  UK  stopped  by  our  Library   to  meet  with  parents  and  students!  During  the  Parent  Session,  Alan  Durant  shared  some  of   his   experiences   as   a   writer   and  what   has   inspired   him   to   write   99   books!     He  captivated   the   Pre-‐3   audience,   when   the   students   sang   together   a   new   made   up  version  of  the  song,  “Twinkle  Twinkle,  Little  Star.”    Pre4  students  and  teachers  were  happily   startled   when   Alan   acted   out   part   of   his   book   called   “Billy Monster's Daymare,” in which the main character wakes up twice after horrible daymares about boys and girls. KG students requested that the author read aloud one of their new favourite stories, “Burger Boy!” Pre3 to KG students were able to have the author sign their books. Throughout the sessions, students, parents and teachers alike were all inspired to share their creative ideas and experiences through their own writing!

During this last month, the Grade 4/5 Boys Football team have had much success in the QF Football League.

When QAS played our first games in October, we suffered three losses including a 8 - 0 defeat to QA Doha. Last Wednesday, QAS finished off the season with a round robin tournament in which we placed second place with a 2 & 2 record, playing high quality competitive games, never losing by more than a goal. This shows how much QA Sidra has improved. Well done lads!!! The team would really like to thank Coach Allen McInnis and Coach John Dugan for supporting them this season.
