Capitalising on the experience of Muntajat’s management team in marketing and distributing chemicals and petrochemicals for more than 20 years, Muntajat is in the process of setting up a global network of offices spread around the globe. A dedicated team of more than 400 employees, with 250 employees to be based in its headquarters in Qatar and 150 will make up its global marketing network. In addition, a number of logistic establishments and warehouses will support Muntajat’s marketing, sales and distribution activities.

Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) is an important industrial chemical chiefly used to produce the Polymer Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).

CAUSTIC SODA (CSS) ETHYLENE DICHLORIDE (EDC) VINYL CHLORIDE MONOMER (VCM)

Caustic Soda is a solution of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) in water. It is used in many industries, such as alumina, as a strong chemical base and also in the manufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents and as a drain cleaner.

Ethylene Dichloride (EDC), is a chlorinated hydrocarbon, mainly used to produce Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM), the major precursor for PVC production. It is a colourless liquid with a chloroform-like odour. EDC is generally used as an intermediate for other organic chemical compounds, and as a solvent.

Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) is produced by cracking of Ethylene Dichloride (EDC). Nearly all VCM is converted into PVC or vinyl copolymers. PVC is among the largest volume plastics produced around the world, widely used in the manufacture of products in the construction, medical, automotive, electronics and packaging industries.

Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) is mainly used in the production of surfactants for use in detergents. Since the 1960s, LABs have emerged as the dominant precursor of biodegradable detergents.

HYDRO CHLORIC ACID (HCL) LINEAR ALKYL BENZENE (LAB) HEAVY ALKYL BENZENE (HAB)

Hydro Chloric Acid (HCL) is used in numerous applications from water treatment to food processing. The uses for HCL include steel pickling, corn syrup production, brine treatment, oil well acidizing, calcium chloride production as well as swimming pool treatment.

Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) is a family of organic compounds with the formula C6H5CnH2n+1. Since the 1960s, LAB has emerged as the dominant precursor in biodegradable detergents, in particular laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, industrial cleaners, agrochemicals, emulsion polymerization & wetting agents for textiles. The superior product quality of SEEF LAB as seen from High Linearity (>92 wt %), low Bromine Index (<10), low Dialkyl Tetralins & Indanes content (<1 wt %) leads to high sulfonability, improved surfactant properties, lighter colour of sulfonic acid and excellent detergent performance which ultimately enhances customer profitability.

Heavy Alkyl Benzene (HAB) or Heavy Alkylate is used for manufacture of lube oils, thermic fluids, refrigeration oils, textile auxiliaries and electrical oils.

Sodium and Calcium sulfonated derivatives of Heavy Alkylate are reckoned for high shelf life, stability under different climatic conditions and work as a surface active agent. HAB manufactured by SEEF commands a market premium due to its consistent and superior quality. Produced by: SEEF Limited

Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE) is almost exclusively used as a fuel additive for gasoline engines.

METHANOL METHYL TERTIARY-BUTYL ETHER (MTBE)

Methanol is clear, colourless, flammable liquid with a characteristic odour. It is a clean energy source, as well as a raw material for some of the everyday items we use.

Within the petrochemical industry, Methanol is used as a raw material for the manufacturing of some of its traditional applications of Formaldehyde, Acetic Acid, MTBE, Solvents, MMA, and is increasingly used in Gasoline/Fuel, DME and MTO/MTP.

Qatar Fuel Additives Company (QAFAC) Methanol plant is designed to produce 2,950 metric tonnes per day of US Federal Grade AA Methanol using ICI technology.

QAFAC Methanol is produced from natural gas provided by Qatar Petroleum (QP), via steam reforming and Methanol synthesis.

Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE) is colourless, flammable liquid with a characteristic odour and has an average octane number of 110. Therefore it is used as a gasoline additive that provides clean burning fuel to reduce the tail gas pollution generated by motor vehicles. At the same time it eliminates the need for Tera Ethyl Lead blending the gasoline.

QAFAC MTBE plant is designed to produce around 1,830 metric tonnes per day by processing butane and Methanol using UOP technology. The Methanol is provided by the on-site Methanol plant and Qatar Petroleum (QP) provides the field butane. QAFAC MTBE is also used by QP Refinery to replace lead in the gasoline being marketed in Qatar. Produced by: Qatar Fuel Additives Company (QAFAC)

Polymers range from familiar synthetic plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene to natural biopolymers such as DNA and proteins that are fundamental to biological structure and function. Because of their broad range of properties, both synthetic and natural polymers play an essential and ubiquitous role in everyday life.

Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is a thermoplastic made from the monomer Ethylene and continues to be an important plastic grade.

LINEAR LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LLDPE)

LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LDPE)

LLDPE is a major thermoplastic, with a total world-wide production of around 25 million tonnes. LLDPE is a copolymer made from Ethylene and from an Alpha-Olefin. LLDPE is a polyethylene with good impact and puncture resistance, good flexibility and high elongation under stress.

Like for LDPE, the main application for LLDPE is films and sheets. LLDPE is also used in injection-molding, rotomolding, wire and cables.

In Qatar, LLDPE is produced by Qatofin and marketed under the trademark Lotrène®. Qatofin’s product range focuses on film applications, with four blown film grades and one specific cast film grade. All grades are Butene-based. This focused industrial strategy allows reaching the highest quality and consistency standards.

Examples of applications are: bags, packaging film, agricultural film, stretch film, cling film and lamination films.

With a world-wide consumption of around 20 million tonnes, LDPE is one of today’s major thermoplastics. LDPE is a polymer made from the monomer Ethylene. It is transparent, robust and at the same time relatively flexible. LDPE has excellent resistance to water, moisture and various organic solvents and chemicals. LDPE is mainly used for the manufacture of films & sheets, but is also used for extrusion- coating, injection-molding, wire and cables or other processes.

In Qatar, LDPE is produced by QAPCO and marketed under the trademark Lotrène ®.

QAPCO has a full range of LDPE for the production of industrial and consumer films, as well as one coating and two injection molding-grades.

Examples of applications are: 25 kg industrial bags, pallet shrink films, collations shrink films, pouches, freezer bags, shopping bags and laundry bags.

MELAMINE

Melamine is a synthetic molecule with the chemical formula C3H6N6, it is 66% nitrogen (by mass) and it is only slightly soluble in water. Melamine is a fire retardant and is heat tolerant. Most of the Melamine plants utilise Urea to produce Melamine.

Melamine is used in the synthesis of Melamine Formaldehyde (MF) and Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) resins, surface coating, paper, textile treatment and for moulding compounds. These items are in turn absorbed by the construction sector and by the wood processing, furniture, paper, textile, automotive and dinnerware industries.

A fertiliser is any organic or inorganic material of natural or synthetic origin (other than liming materials) that is added to a soil to supply one or more plant nutrients essential to the growth of plants.

Ammonia is used as a fertiliser. When applied to soil, it helps provide increased yields of crops such as maize and wheat.

AMMONIA AQUEOUS AMMONIA (AQ)

Ammonia is a chemical compound made of Nitrogen 82% and Hydrogen 18%. It is produced using natural gas as the main feedstock. The other feeds required are steam and air.

These feed materials undergo a series of reactions in the Ammonia plant, before Ammonia is produced in gaseous form. This is turned into liquid under pressure and cooling down.

Ammonia is stored at a temperature of minus 33°C in a specially refrigerated Ammonia storage tank.

A major part of the Ammonia produced in Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) Ammonia plants is consumed internally, as feedstock for the Urea plants. The surplus Ammonia is exported through ships.

Urea can be applied in many different ways from sophisticated aerial application equipment to a farm spreading Urea by hand.

UREA FORMALDEHYDE (UFC) UREA

Urea Formaldehyde Condensate (UFC-85) is a viscous liquid containing 60% formaldehyde, 25% Urea, 0.21% Methanol and balance water. Formaldehyde is first produced by the reaction of Methanol with air, then absorbed in Urea solution to form UFC-85.

Urea is a solid fertiliser containing 46.6% Nitrogen. It is produced by the reaction of Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide under high pressure, both feedstocks being supplied by the Ammonia plant.

The Urea produced in solution is turned into a solid fertiliser of spherical granules in the final section of the Urea plant called a granulation unit.

UFC-85 is an additive, which is added to the Urea product to improve its strength. UFC-85 is used as an anticaking agent for the Urea. Around 80% of the UFC-85 product is consumed internally, in all the Urea plants of QAFCO. The remaining product is exported via trucks to neighbouring countries.
