MANNING MARCHES ONOne of the great success stories this year at

the club has to be John Manning. He may havestarted the year with a very low rating and somemight describe his style as a bit unconventional, but he must be doing something right. He hasbeen overwhelming almost all of his opponentsthroughout the year.

In the following final round game from theQueens Summer Open, he employed anaggressive King-side attack against FloranteVillaneuva(171'1).

FRUMKIN AT u.S. OPENnEd Frumkin is probably the most

active tournament player in the club. In thefollowing 4th round game on August 9th at theU.S. Open, there was no successful response tohis powerful 39th move. His opponent,Ludwig Amdt, resiged.

REMEMBERING ALEX FLANWe were all greatly saddened this past

June by the sudden death of Alexander Elan, amember of our club for over 30 years. Alex, although well on in years, was always an activebooster of the club and recently served as 2ndvice president.

In addition to his many years ofdevotion to the Queens Chess Club, he was anardent activist in the cause of peace and humanrights.

He is sorely missed.
