Dear Mr. Bosco:
The Venice Canals Foundation is applying to the California Coastal Conservancy for a$100,000 grant to complete the Venice Beach-Venice Canals Access Project. I wouldlike to express my appreciation for the Conservancy's involvement with this project, andmy hope that it will continue with the help of this additional funding.
The beach-to-canals walkway will connect one of Southern California's most populartourist destinations to the most historically significant feature of a community that isproud of its beginnings in 1905 as founder Abbot Kinney's "Venice of America." TheVenice Canals Foundation has envisioned an inviting, landscaped walkway forpedestrians, the first of its kind to connect Venice Beach witb its picturesque canals.
While the Venice Canals Foundation was formed in 2005, many of its founders havebeen involved in efforts to maintain and improve the Venice Canals for almost 30 years.Their tireless efforts to restore and maintain the nearly 100-year old Canals havehelped to ensure that the historic area remains clean, beautiful and safe for residentsand visitors. This beach-to-canals project is well-supported by local residents, and is anatural extension of the pride they feel in sharing their unique community with visitorsfrom throughout the Los Angeles region and beyond.
One especially noteworthy feature of this proposal is that it creates new public openspace by incorporating property owned by the City of Los Angeles that was previouslyslated for sale and development. Due to the efforts of the Foundation and communityleaeers, the new pedestrian pathway will flow through the center of this vacant lot. TheFoundation will maintain all of the plants and trees that will be added there, to ensurethat they continue to flourish, in keeping with the planners' original vision.
Thank you for your careful consideration of this worthy proposal.

Dear CalifomiaCoastal Commissioners& Staff:
Please let this letter serve to document my support the Venice Canals Foundation's application forfunding from the California Coastal Conservancy. This project is in my district and will serve thepublic's benefit by providing a,safe access to both the Historic Venice Canals and the famous VeniceDCACh.
Both are important resources of Los Angeles and are visited by millions of people per year round.Linking the two will provide the public an access to Coastal activities including beach recreation, humanpowered boating, bird watching, nature tours and other activities that lend to Venice's status as anintem~tionally-renowned.d~tinstion. The project will further the goali of the Venice Canals Foundationto protect, maintain and improve accesses to the historic Venice Canals for the general public and theVenice Community. . ' ,
The city of Los Angeles has showed it's commitment to this effort by awarding the V~nice CanalFoundation a Matching Grant of $10.000.00. along with my own commitment to have the'City.of LosAngeles ma.intainthe beach access path.
In thc final analysis, this project calls for an environmentally-sound landscape design, using Cityapproved trees and drought tolerant plants to beautify City owned property. When finished. the publicwillhavea beautifLlltreeshadedpathtobe usedbyall. '
