BI in Berendsen

Background for establishing a new BI platform – strong points

• Datawarehouse solution since 1998

• High data quality

• Solid and deeply rooted in the company (200+ daily users)

• Supports Strategic, Tactical and Operational reports, Production, Logistics,

Customer data and Financial data

• Great trust in the data

• Disciplinary development

• Overall very low license costs

• Low operation costs

• Strong in-house development competencies

• Large reduction of data sources following the consolidation of systems

• OK Governance setup (interplay with the organzation)

• Discoverer - a solid reporting tool

Page 9: QlikView in Berendsenqvfiles.s3.amazonaws.com/landing_pages/DK/SE-VYW_Berendsen.pdfQlikView in Berendsen Presentation for QlikTech Visualize Your World Tivoli Congress Center, Oct.

BI in Berendsen

Background for a new platform – weak points

Discoverer:

• In general, not user friendly, a bit ”geeky”, requires users to have training

and understand data models

• Relatively long response time on reports

• Difficult to master, which scares new users away from using it

• Relatively long development time. No reports are made without the data

warehouse: No easy solutions.

• No real visualization-facilities, it is a reporting tool. Lacking ”Business

Intelligence”

• Product is ”end of life”. No development since 2002.

• Can not integrate to Intranet and Extranet solutions.

Page 10: QlikView in Berendsenqvfiles.s3.amazonaws.com/landing_pages/DK/SE-VYW_Berendsen.pdfQlikView in Berendsen Presentation for QlikTech Visualize Your World Tivoli Congress Center, Oct.

BI in Berendsen

Conclusion

• To base BI solely on a reporting tool is not BI

• Doing comparative analyses was difficult and mostly done in Excel, prone to

errors

• Our solution was (always) based on yesterdays data!

• Time-to-market was too slow

Page 11: QlikView in Berendsenqvfiles.s3.amazonaws.com/landing_pages/DK/SE-VYW_Berendsen.pdfQlikView in Berendsen Presentation for QlikTech Visualize Your World Tivoli Congress Center, Oct.

Primary reasons for choosing QlikView

• SIB was convincing

• Low time-to-market

• Combining all sorts of data

• Easy of use

• We chose what the users wanted, not what the IT department would like

• All-in-one app

• Simple architecture, “plug and play”

• We could get started right away, and deliver results from day 1

• Other vendors integrated systems was not integrated!

Visualizing our data

The primary focus of our BI systems is to make our data work

If the data is not out in the field, we cannot utilize it and make proper

information based decisions

So the data must be where the users are

How do we do that?

The business decides what they need to analyze

And The users design the interfaces with us

Where has that taken us?
