DSM Engineering Plastics

DSM EP is a Business Group in the performance materials cluster of DSM, with sales over EUR 1300million and ~1900 employees worldwide, having its global headquarters in Singapore.

DSM EP has a focused portfolio of products, each with globally aligned leadership. DSM EP is theglobal number 3 in the overall market for semi-crystalline engineering plastics and is the globalmarket leader in high-temperature polyamides. In polyamide 6, DSM EP holds the number 2 position,as it does in thermoplastic copolyester elastomers.

DSM EP offers an industry-leading portfolio of green thermoplastic technologies. Its leadership insustainable solutions is demonstrated by its complete portfolio of halogen-free engineering plastics, developed for a wide range of high-performance applications. This has been further strengthened bythe successful launch of new innovations, of which Stanyl® ForTii™, the new breakthrough high-temperature polyamide with halogen-free flame-retardant grades, is a recent example.

DSM strives to further improve the environmental performance of its products. The most innovativedevelopments in this field are new bio-based polymers and bio-based building blocks. DSM EP isalready making strong progress on this front; EcoPaXX™ is the best-performing green polymeravailable and has a zero carbon footprint.

Many of DSM EP’s customers are looking for materials with high recyclability to improve the LifeCycle Assessment scores of their own products. DSM EP is leading the response to this need.Recognizing the growing interest in recycling with the ultimate goal of achieving closed-loopsystems, DSM has adopted the Cradle to Cradle® concept as part of its sustainability strategy. DSMEP is also actively replacing hazardous materials, particularly by introducing halogen-freealternatives, such as Arnitel® XG (used in consumer electronics cables), Stanyl® ForTii™ (especiallyin electronic connectors), and Arnite® XG (used in electrical insulation in white goods).

In 2011 DSM started a Joint Venture with KuibyshevAzot OJSC in which DSM has a majority share. The joint venture relates to marketing and sales of engineering plastics (Volgalon) in Russia andother members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and secondly for the productionof engineering plastics compounds (Volgaplast) in a plant located in Togliatti (Russia).

II. Sustainability

Sustainability means different things to different people. At DSM we define it as meeting the needsof the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their ownneeds – which in turn means boosting economic prosperity, environmental quality and socialresponsibility for the benefit of people, planet and profit.

By 2050 there will be nine billion of us living on this planet. As a species we are growing, we areaging, but most importantly, we are changing. Unfortunately, the modern world that man hashelped to create isn’t always ideal for sustaining a stable and prosperous future.

This is precisely why sustainability is now our fundamental business driver. Virtually everything wedo is now being driven by sustainability and the need to identify the major global challenges andtrends, and then solve them for our customers. We therefore embrace what’s known as the Triple Pconcept: People, Planet and Profit.

PeopleOur brand promise is to create brighter lives for people today and for generations to come. Thatmeans improving lives through our activities, products and innovations. It also means sustaining andeven saving lives. For example, our work with the World Food Programme is a true socialpartnership where our MixMe® nutrient package has helped tackle hidden hunger for some 10million people and counting. Our solutions also benefit people in many other ways, from materialsused in life protection gear like helmets and vests, to biomedical products that are extending activelife.

PlanetWe only have one planet, and we need to make it last. Therefore, today an overwhelming majorityof the products in our innovation pipeline are ECO+. In other words, they have a smaller carbonfootprint than equivalent products, while providing greater value and benefits. From world-recordbreaking coatings for solar cells, to solvent-free paints, to plastics made from castor and rapeseedoil instead of mineral oil (some of which are also halogen-free) – this is the fruit of our labors.Meanwhile, we continue to make our own manufacturing processes – in fact, entire value chains –more energy efficient and less wasteful. For example, we’re on target to improve our energyefficiency by 20% by 2020.

ProfitDSM is a business, so naturally, our activities need to be economically sustainable. Many of our ECO+products - from plastics to natural food enzyme ingredients - offer superior and innovativeprocessing benefits that are not only carbon and energy efficient but also cost efficient. In bold newareas like solar power and biofuels the playing field is leveling out, governments are investing intechnologies and infrastructure – which in turn is paving the way for commercial success. In boomingeconomies, the ability to deliver basics like clean water and safe, affordable food is increasinglycrucial; meanwhile we continue to find sustainable business models for helping the four billionpeople at the base of the pyramid.

People, planet, profit: It’s a win-win-win.

Typical values for product characteristics are mentioned on the Product DataSheet and could be downloaded via our website. If the customer’s application requires additionalspecifications on specific product characteristics, it should be explicitly agreed upon in writing If the customer’s application requires additional specifications on specific product characteristics,it should be explicitly agreed upon in writing.Specifications are an integral part of the supply relationship between DSM EP and the customer. This supply relationship is further detailed in DSM EP’s general terms and conditions or any explicitother agreement between DSM EP and the customer.Changes in specifications will be communicated in a timely manner by the Account Manager.

Management of ChangeChanges in DSM EP’s processes, materials, or equipment that are reasonably foreseen by DSM EP tolead to a different product specification range, different packaging, new production site(relocation), product elimination, and any change expected to have a negative impact on thenormal properties and/or processability of the product will be notified in writing to the Customer bythe Account Manager in a timely manner to allow testing at the Customer. If a specific contract, like a PPAP, is agreed upon between DSM EP and a customer, the proposed change will follow thisagreement.

Certificates of AnalysisWith each delivery, DSM issues a Certificate of Analysis (CoA), which declares that the productssupplied comply with the requirements of the order. The CoA contains the order information, thetest characteristics, and the corresponding test method, test results, customer-agreedspecifications for the shipped batch of material. The CoA will be validated by an authorized DSMinspection representative, independent of the production department. As such, the CoA complieswith these and all requirements of a “Type 3.1” inspection certificate under EN 10204:2004.

Material testsThe physical/chemical characteristics of the material are determined on a regular basis on the finalproduct before the packaging. A visual inspection of the packed goods takes place prior toshipment. Due to the production process and the destructive nature of testing, 100% inspection ofbulk materials is not possible. DSM EP products are automatically released via SAP when meetingthe standard batch release delivery specifications and, if applicable, additional batch releasedelivery specifications which have been explicitly agreed upon between DSM EP and the Customer.

Test methodsOur DSM standardized test methods used for material characterization are based on internationalaccepted standards like ISO and ASTM. These test methods are mentioned on our Product DataSheets.

Security of Supply

Supply of raw materials and servicesRaw Material suppliers are selected and qualified according to the guidelines of DSM EP as writtendown in DSM EP’s Global Management System. Frequency and extent of the assessment depends onthe importance of the materials and services supplied to the business processes. In the assessmentthe following items are audited as a minimum: logistic performance, financial performance, productquality, sustainability and continuous improvement.

DSM EP shall only select suppliers for raw materials which are registered to at least ISO 9001 by anaccredited third-party certification body. If this is not the case and our security of supply is atstake, DSM EP may deviate from this requirement but will take adequate additional measures. If theraw material manufacturer is third-party certified to ISO 9001, it is preferred (but not required) forany distributor of this raw material to be ISO 9001 certified. Unless specifically required by thecustomer, third-party providers of logistic services, including transporting and warehousing, arepreferred to be ISO 9001 certified, but ISO 9001 certification is not required if other industry-relevant quality certifications are in place.

DSM EP shall only select suppliers for laboratory and calibrating services which are registered toISO/IEC 17025 by an accredited third-party certification body or have a plan available to meet thisrequirement within acceptable timeframe. Calibration services may be provided by the originalequipment manufacturer, provided their laboratory also maintains the requirements of IATF 16949,section 7.1.5.3.1. If this is not the case and security of supply is at stake DSM EP could deviate fromthis requirement but will convince itself of the validity of the analyzes or calibrations by additionalanalyzes.

PlanningDSM EP produces to stock, or to order. The production planning is based on contracted volumes, updated forecasts of customers and inventory data. To ensure that product of the right type andquantity is available all of the time, DSM EP relies on accurate forecasts from all its customers.

DSM EP strives to supply product to customers as confirmed in the agreement. The specific terms ofthis agreement are defined in our General Conditions of Sale (GCOS), or as otherwise expresslystated in the Seller Confirmation.

Warehouse ManagementThe warehouse is managed by First in First out (FIFO) principles.

Contingency planningDSM EP has taken several measures to prepare for the continuity of supply in the event of keyequipment failures, interruption of external services, recurring natural disasters, fire, utilityinterruptions, cyber-attacks, labor shortages, or infrastructure disruptions. Contingency plans are inplace for all DSM EP plants and the necessary inputs that support production (suppliers, utilities,parts/equipment, distribution, etc). A spare parts / maintenance program has been determined foreach part of equipment based on a risk analysis.

In addition, DEP performs an annual risk assessment of all business processes, and the concept ofrisk-based thinking is applied and documented throughout our QMS, including our turtle diagrams,SWOT analyses, contingency planning, and quality management reviews.

TransportDSM EP works with preferred transport companies selected after careful auditing to ensure serviceand above all DSM’s high standards on safety, quality and reliability. All transporters must meet theDSM Minimum Requirements for Transport, i.e.

a. Have a Safety, Health and Environmental management system (demonstrable).

b. Meet the requirements of the “Green Booklet”, Guidelines for Standardization of RoadTransport Equipment, issued by CEFIC/ECTA/EPCA working group.

The performance of the transport companies is evaluated on a regular basis.

Customs related securityDSM EP in Europe has been certified in the European Union as Authorized Economic Operator (AEO),Customs Simplifications, Security and Safety. This means DSM EP in Europe is reliable throughoutthe European Community in the context of his customs related operations when trading with non-EUjurisdictions and fulfils the criteria of appropriate record-keeping standards, financial solvency andmaintenance of appropriate security and safety standards. The AEO code is also recognized by non-European Union countries like Norway, Switzerland, Japan and US (Customs-Trade PartnershipAgainst Terrorism, or C-TPAT). See annex for a copy of the AEO certificate.

VII. Packaging

DSM EP is able to deliver in bags on pallet, octapacks, boxes, big bags, and (restricted) in silo. DSMEP uses one-way packaging and cannot retrieve or reclaim the packaging. Package types may differbetween the product brands.

LabelsTo ensure traceability the pallets are labeled on both sides with:• the producer name and address• product name• batch number (or shipment/container number, where applicable)• net weight

Material Storage and Shelf LifeDSM EP’s products are dried in the factory to a specified maximum moisture specification anddelivered in packaging materials that minimize moisture absorption. Material stored in a warehousewill neither show decrease of molecular weight nor undergo chemical reactions with theenvironment, so there is no loss in original quality of the material. Therefore, the concept of shelflife does not apply to DSM EP’s polymers or compounded products.

In case the material absorbs moisture prior to use, it is advised to dry the material according to theappropriate Injection Molding Recommendations (IMR), available for all products in multiplelanguages upon request.
