Pete Schlitz welcomed a good representation of the

community on Monday night. He explained that the

committee and the club had got smaller over the

last few years which made it difficult to field a

team in the local competition and to function as a

club. The club wanted feedback as to the future di-

rection of tennis in Quambatook.

Greg Currie of Northern District Community

Health Service said Quambatook was not the only

club to experience difficulties getting players and

towns including clubs in Melbourne He attributed

causes in our area to the declining and aging of the

population and also the impact of the prolonged dry

conditions which have been experienced.

Greg spoke of the importance of sporting clubs to a

and facilities which are envied by other clubs.

Those at the meeting supported a focus on social

Shirley and Keith Williamson of Moree send greetings to their friends in Quambatook and dis-trict. Having recently celebrated their 66th wed-ding anniversary, Shirley and Keith are now awaiting a place in “Fairview” where they hope to spend many happy years. They were very happy to have home for a short visit, their three sons John, William and Peter. Keith is looking forward to his 90th birthday next Feb. They have many happy memories of Quambatook and love to re-ceive their copy of Mallee Root News.
