What is QUANTUM? Poorly commissioned and operated building management systems are oſten responsible for a notable part of the gap between calculated and actual energy performance of the European building stock, and this can oſten be caused by the lack of appropriate and coherent Quality Management Systems (QMS). To tackle these challenges, EU funded project QUANTUM will develop and demonstrate pragmatic services and appropriate tools that are suitable for widespread use, that support QMS for building per- formance in the design, construction, commissioning and operation phases. For more information, please visit QUANTUM website. Comfortmeter assesses comfort sasfacon in 120 buildings: survey on track Office workers’ producvity, well-being and health is known to be directly impacted by indoor comfort. However, this comfort level may not be sasfactory as a result of poorly configured or operated Building Management Systems (BMS), lack of appropriate Quality Management (QM) procedures and errors in design or construcon of building systems. Comfortmeter is an online tool that allows to measure the comfort level in office buildings. The laer is documented on the Comfortmeter website. QUANTUM is collecng comfort data from 120 European offices and analyzing them with the Comfortmeter , in order to idenfy crical condions and provide a set of improvement measures. Covering more than 600.000 square meters of space and 20.000 end-users, these surveys will provide a deeper insight in how to survey indoor comfort as well as assist the further calibrang of this tool. Since these surveys are conducted in many different countries, they will also allow to fine-tune the currently used econometric mo- dels with respect to parameters such as building type or climac zone. quantum Newsletter This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovaon programme under grant agreement No. 680529. What is QUANTUM? Poorly commissioned and operated building management systems are often responsible for a notable part of the gap between calculated and actual energy performance of the European building stock, and this can often be caused by the lack of appropriate and coherent Quality Management Systems (QMS).

To tackle these challenges, EU funded project QUANTUM will develop and demonstrate pragmatic services and appropriate tools that are suitable for widespread use, that support QMS for building per- formance in the design, construction, commissioning and operation phases. Comfortmeter assesses comfort satisfaction in 120 buildings: survey on trackOffice workers’ productivity, well-being and health is known to be directly impacted by indoor comfort. However, this comfort level may not be satisfactory as a result of poorly configured or operated Building Management Systems (BMS), lack of appropriate Quality Management (QM) procedures and errors in design or construction of building systems. Comfortmeter is an online tool that allows to measure the comfort level in office buildings. The latter is documented on the Comfortmeter website.

QUANTUM is collecting comfort data from 120 European offices and analyzing them with the Comfortmeter, in order to identify critical conditions and provide a set of improvement measures. Covering more than 600.000 square meters of space and 20.000 end-users, these surveys will provide a deeper insight in how to survey indoor comfort as well as assist the further calibrating of this tool. Since these surveys are conducted in many different countries, they will also allow to fine-tune the currently used econometric mo-dels with respect to parameters such as building type or climatic zone.

Both the Congress Centre in Prague and the building of the Philharmonic Orchestra are two notable examples among the buildings surveyed. In Autumn 2016, ENESA has collected and analysed data from two offices owned by the national utility ČEZ and National Theatre Prague. Both these buildings are being evaluated using the Comfortmeter after the retrofit by ENESA.

Past QUANTUM Events

October 2016 30th GLT User Conference 2016, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), 6th of October The workshop on Building Automation Systems focused on the application of new approaches within Building Automation Technologies. Within the event Stefan Plesser introduced QUANTUM tool Performance Test Bench to the audience from building industry and research.

The presentation (in German) can be downloaded here.

June 2016 Sustainable Places International Conference 2016, Anglet (France), 29th of JuneAt the workshop “Energy Performance Gap: New Reduction Tools”, Jan Mehnert presented the three market-ready ICT driven tools. Scientists and stakeholder could discuss relevant topics on building performan-ce and tools integration. Jan rose attention on the Comfortmeter which will analyse 120 European buildings. Application to the Comfortmeter Survey is still open and are free of charge for all participants.

FIRE Conference on Energy Management Systems, Milan (Italy), 21st of JuneThe Italian Federation for Energy Efficiency (FIRE) organised a conference on the Energy Management Systems (ISO 50001) and the benefit of a larger deployment of such systems.
