Here are some special summer happenings to add to your calendar! This will be a wonderful summer for building fellowship and momentum as a church. I hope that you can take advantage of the following opportunities.
Combined Worship Service with Baptism and the Lord’s Supper on June 12 – This upcoming Sunday (June 12) will serve as the day of our next quarterly combined worship service. Let’s gather for fellowship in the Atrium at 9am, followed by Sunday School at 9:45am and worship at 11am. We will observe both ordinances in the worship service. We will also plan for a regular evening service at 5pm. I’m looking forward to this wonderful day of worship together.
CaveQuest VBS: June 13-17 – Vacation Bible School is less than a week away! Children are invited this year to join our CaveQuest on June 13-17 from 8:45am-Noon. It’s time to invite your friends and neighbors to join the fun.
Summer Bible Study with Dr. Richard Jackson – We are excited again this year that the Seekers Department (Adult 5) will host the annual Summer Bible Study in the Fellowship Hall on June 14, July 12, and August 9. We meet in the Fellowship Hall at 6pm for a meal and Bible study with Pastor Jackson. The meal costs $5.
A Night of Praise and Fellowship on June 26 – The Evangelism/Missions Committee and the Spiritual Formation Committee have teamed up to organize a special night of fellowship and praise on June 26 at 5pm in the Fellowship Hall. We’re calling it Pies, Popcorn, and Praise. Come ready to count your blessings.
Youth Camp in Glorieta – Our students will travel to Glorieta, New Mexico this year for camp from July 10-16. Deadline for camp sign up is June 12 (this upcoming Sunday).
Ice Cream with the Pastor – You are encouraged to bring ice cream and to gather for fellowship and conversation on July 10 and August 7 in the Fellowship Hall. We will begin each evening at 5pm. I will be sharing a pastoral strategic ministry plan with you and inviting your input. I believe that you will be encouraged and excited about our future. The same information will be shared on both evenings, but we are scheduling two nights to allow for more participation.
Looking ahead – There are two huge evangelistic emphases coming up for our church in the fall. It’s not too early to begin planning for them. First, we will be the host church for the Engage Conference on September 10. The churches of our area association and the BGCT combine forces to organize this timely event. Twenty workshops will be offered by area pastors, including six workshops in Spanish. The workshops will deal mostly with apologetics (sharing our faith in public) and discipleship, or follow-up. I will lead a workshop called Is Christianity an Intolerant and Insensitive Religion? Cost is only $10 if you register by August 10. Registration forms will be available soon. We had over 300 people at this event two years ago, so space fills up quickly.
Second, the Missions/Evangelism Committee and I are organizing a month-long emphasis called Simplify4Him. We will take a month out of the fall in order to concentrate on ways in which we can simplify and declutter our lives to be more evangelistic. The emphasis will culminate in a four day revival. More details are coming on our guest preacher.

The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated on Sunday, June 12, during a combined morning worship service at 11:00 am. We’ll begin the morning at 9:00 am with fellowship and refreshments in the atrium, followed by Bible Study for all ages at 9:45 am.
If you worship with us via television, this service will actually be broadcast on Sunday, June 19, at 8:00 am on KIDY and 10:00 am on My San Angelo. However, we will still have prepackaged elements available which will allow you to participate in the Lord’s Supper as you watch.

Elijah Sharp who was presented with Scouting’s highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout, on Monday, May 9. This is an honor earned by only 3% of Boy Scouts.
In order to achieve the rank of Eagle, scouts are required to earn 21 merit badges, 12 of those being required Eagle badges. In his quest to reach Eagle, Elijah completed the requirements for 38 merit badges. Once t h e b a d g e s were earned, Elijah submitted and received approval for his community service project. He chose to work with Rust Street Ministries, redoing their parking lot by adding parking stripes and concrete blocks, and handicapped signs.
Elijah will be a senior next fall and is the son of Harold and Vonnie Sharp.

Christian Women’s Job Corps celebrated on May 12 with two students who completed requirements for Jobs For Life and CWJC Life Skills. They have a vocational plan, a resume, and a “sixty second commercial” which communicates the skills, education, and experience they bring to the job. Pastor Marcella Jenkins of Sword of the Spirit Church gave the challenge.
Our next class will begin on September 6, 2016. We need volunteers to bring food, Mentors, and Advisory Council Members who will help
us get the word out about CWJC. One of our graduates said, “This is an awesome program. I tell people everywhere I go about CWJC”. That is what we need --more people advertising CWJC.
