Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee (QES) Scholarship Program OVERVIEW The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee (QES) Scholarship Program is a national scholarship program for student mobility between Canada and the countries of the Commonwealth. The QES is managed through a unique partnership of Universities Canada, the Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF), Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and Canadian universities. This program is made possible with financial support from the Government of Canada, provincial governments and the private sector. Commonwealth countries Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Antarctic Territory, British Virgin Islands, Brunei Darussalam, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji Islands, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcaim Islands, Rwanda, South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands, St. Helena and dependencies, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, The Bahamas, The Maldives, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, United Kingdom, Uganda, Vanuatu, and Zambia. Scholarship Value The scholarship value will be to a maximum of $21,000 per year plus minimum funding for a full scholarship; and $4,000 per year plus minimum funding for a partial scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for a total of two years. Minimum Academic Requirements Academic merit is the defining criterion for the selection of QES recipients by institutions. QES recipients must have achieved a first- class average of 3.70/4.30, in each of the two years of full-time study prior to awarding of the QES. Eligibility Criteria: Both full and partial international Queen Elizabeth Scholars must meet the following eligibility requirements: Must have an A- (3.70/4.30) or greater in the last 2 years of full-time study prior to receiving the award Must be 35 years of age or under at time of application Must be an international master’s student from the Commonwealth 1 , enrolled in an eligible research program when starting the award. Anyone who has applied for Canadian citizenship or for permanent residency is not eligible o Be geographically available and visit campus regularly 2 o Must be a full-time master’s student, and continuously maintain full-time status for the duration of the award. o Cannot be employed outside the university except by permission of supervisor o Cannot be enrolling in a qualifying or make-up year Must agree to return to their home country and sign a form to this effect as part of their acceptance of the award Must participate in community engagement activities in Canada Cannot hold a QES full scholarship concurrently with a scholarship or fellowship from other federal or provincial scholarship programs Must maintain satisfactory research progress for the duration of this award The award is renewable for up to a total of 2 years subject to academic performance and availability of funding. Renewal beyond the first year requires a minimum GPA of A- in all completed courses. Applicants should note that meeting or exceeding the minimum stated requirements does not guarantee an offer of funding. Allocations will be based on the number and quality of applicants.
