In preparation for their reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation, each of the eighth graders in our school and parish religious education program write a letter to me setting forth the reasons why they are seeking to be confirmed. I read all the letters with great interest and I always find a few pearls of wisdom in them which are truly remarkable and well worth sharing with the whole parish. I hope you are as impressed with the thoughts of our newly confirmed as I am. Sometimes I gather them in different topics or themes, but this time I think I will just set them out for all to see. Sometimes I attach a first name with a thought, but this time I’m going to let
their thoughts be anonymous. This year for a reason I do not know, there are more of the boys’ thoughts than the girls. Girls
“I would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation to strengthen my relationship with God. Another reason I’d like to be confirmed is because I am not always feeling God’s presence in a loving way. When I detect God’s presence, it is sometimes a fearful or disappointing presence. All my life I have been thinking how Jesus has served me, never how I have served him. I want to re-establish that question in my head as I live through each and every moment of my life.” “WWJD or What Would Jesus do? is my favorite saying because it reminds me of the genuine message in life. There are so many materialistic distractions in life, but in the end, God is all that matters. God does not care how much money or how many friends you have. If people recalled this simple message before making decisions, the world would not be such an unpredictable and perilous place. Terrible events such as 9/11, the Boston Marathon bombing and the recent Paris terrorist attack would never have occurred.” “Queen of All Saints makes me feel welcomed and protected, and it gives me the option to do whatever I’m inspired to do.” “Queen of All Saints is like my second home and I have always tried to be very active in the Church. I can’t imagine how different my life would be without it.” “After Mass I feel relaxed, rooted and reminded to be gracious in all the amazing opportunities I receive each and every day. Continuing my Catholic faith means that I will always have God with me as I walk as a child of the light. An ordinary Sunday in November, as I was extra careful to listen to the homily due to the reflection I had to complete afterwards, I realized that quite often, I don’t listen to the homily as carefully as I should. If you really invest in understanding the homily, it can really change the way you look at life.” “Now that I am old enough and get to decide if I want to continue with my faith, I want to. This is not a hard decision for me to make because I believe in everything as a Catholic. After I am confirmed, I am going to be the best Catholic I can be. I will attend Mass every Sunday, think of others before myself, and make sure I am putting my time, talent and treasure into the Church.”

“I am very proud to be a Catholic. I am never embarrassed to tell others about my faith, and try to encourage others to do the same. My goal is to become a serious and dedicated participant in the Catholic Church after receiving Confirmation.” Boys
“I want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation for a few reasons. First is that I have come this far, I might as well finish as strong as possible. Next is that I believe this will make me have the willpower to go up to my family and actually say that we should go to Mass on Sunday. The last reason is that I want to treat it as a fresh start in the practice of my faith and actually go through with the recommended things we are told to do during the week by the Church and even by God.” “I want to be confirmed because I am a firm believer in God. I believe I am ready to become fully initiated into the Church. I actively participate in and with the church community when at Mass, sing in the choir at school Masses and have been an altar server since fifth grade. Instilled in me was and is the need to act as a disciple of Christ in all that I do.” “We are a very religious family. We all pray as a family, before all meals and at bedtime. We also attend Mass together weekly.” “There are many reasons why I want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. One of them is that I feel that it will strengthen my relationship with God and the Church. Another reason is that I have seen the good the Catholic Church has done in the world. I want to complete my initiation into the Catholic Church because I really want to be part of such a loving and respectful community.” “I attend church regularly and make sure to come on Holy Days that are spread throughout the year. I also enjoy the hymns and psalms during Mass and participate enthusiastically in the singing.” “My grandpa is the most religious person in our house, but after receiving Confirmation, I will hope to be as or even more religious than he is.” “When you grow up, you have to start to accept more responsibility and become more mature. I think it means learning to grow spiritually, staying close to Christ. I believe I am ready to continue my journey as a Catholic by being confirmed.” “I am a member of Queen of All Saints family because this family is chiseling a pathway to a better future for me. The QAS family gives respect, love and kindness to all people and to the Lord. I feel that being confirmed will help me reach the ultimate goal of every Catholic: becoming a saint.” “I have made the decision to follow the Catholic faith for my whole life. I will attend Mass on Sunday, whether it will be here or out of town. Accepting Confirmation is a big deal and I feel ready to take this step in my life as I grow up. I don’t doubt a single thing I’ve ever learned from the Bible, nor do I doubt anything you teach me. I believe all that my teachers and parents have taught me about our Catholic faith. You and all the adult mentors in my life have put me on a good path for a faithful and holy life. I freely accept Confirmation and the Holy Spirit’s grace. I look forward to Confirmation and all the great things the Catholic faith can do for me and others.”

“When I was baptized at QAS, I really didn’t have a choice in the matter. It was my parents’ and godparents’ choice. What is important to me about Confirmation is that it is my choice. It is my chance to enter the Catholic Church as an older, more aware person. I am making the choice to be a part of the Church with my family so that I am not just accompanying them at Mass, but I am actually a part of the Church, hopefully supporting and spreading its message. I know that adolescence and high school are not going to be easy. There probably will be times when I am faced with difficult choices and might be tempted to do things that are not smart. I hope that my choice to be a member of the Church will help guide me to take responsibility for my choices. Hopefully I will choose well.” “I have learned that Confirmation is not the end of my faith, but just the beginning. God is giving me time to live and with this I am taking my Christian faith very seriously.” “Another reason I want to be confirmed is because I want to be an example and role model for others. When my sister was confirmed, I could see something different in her. She became a Eucharistic minister and is an active participant in teen ministry. She listens to a lot of Christian music instead of bad-influencing, modern hip-hop. She is even more compassionate than before and will help you when you need it.” “In order to continue fulfilling my Confirmation responsibilities, I will always lend a helping hand to those in need; I will remember to think about how Jesus would act in different situations and try to behave like he would; and I will follow the Ten Commandments and always try to be the person God wants me to be.” There’s a lot going on beneath the surface in the lives of these young people. We will have a Special Mass for the Mentally Ill at the 8:45 a.m. Mass on May 15th, the feast of St. Dymphna. To honor the patroness of the mentally ill, a relic of St. Dymphna will be venerated after the Mass. She is also the patron saint for nervous disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, and rape victims. After the mass, there will be a speaker, Alexa James (executive director of NOMI, Chicago), will talk on services and mental health awareness month of May. All are invited to attend. Hear the call to Liturgical Ministry The Liturgy is the source and summit of all we do as Baptized Catholics. To serve your fellow parishioners through Liturgical ministry is a special gift indeed. We are currently in need of new Eucharistic ministers and new lectors. These two ministries are open to all parishioners, high school age or older. According to Liturgical guidelines, those who would consider these ministries should be a baptized Catholic in good standing with the church, who attends Sunday Mass regularly. The minister will be a person of faith who believes in God, follows Christ and trusts in the Holy Spirit.
***** Experience the joy of serving the Body and Blood of Christ
to the Body of Christ Eucharistic ministers are those who share the Body and Blood with the assembly at Mass. It is a wonderful calling to participate in the sacred nourishment of your fellow parishioners. The ministry of Extraordinary Minister of Communion is open to any parishioner, high school age or older. Because of the flexibility in serving with no specific schedule, high school students are especially encouraged to consider this ministry. Ministers simply sign up in the Sacristy for a station at whichever Mass they happen to attend. There are two training sessions scheduled for NEW Eucharistic ministers. You only need to attend one of these: Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. OR Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.

Lectors proclaim the Sacred Scripture at Mass. At Liturgy, we meet Christ first in the Word. Any parishioner, high school age or older, who has a strong public speaking voice is a candidate for the ministry of Lector. There is a training session scheduled for new lectors on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m.

We have entered the fourth quarter of our financial year with weekly collections slightly ahead of where we were at this time last year, but below this year’s budget. The Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday……………After the 8:00am Mass until all are heard
The Sacrament of Baptism Queen of All Saints rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. If you are a registered parishioner, please come into the rectory during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. If it is not possible for you to come into the rectory, please call the rectory to make arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated two or three Sundays of the month, depending on the time of year, at 1:30 PM - call the rectory for the exact schedule. A Baptismal Preparation class for the parents is required. They are held on select Mondays at 7:30 PM in the Rectory and must also be scheduled in advance. If an adult or a school age child seeks baptism, special arrangements should be made with one of the priests.
The Sacrament of Matrimony Queen of All Saints helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage.
