NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

GOD IS PRESENT WITH US ALWAYS If we wait to be to be adrift upon a stormy sea in order to see that God is present with us, we will miss out on the grace and goodness that currently

surrounds us. God’s love is at work in us, in every sacrament; in every moment of prayer; in every gathering for worship; in every act of kindness. He is in the tiniest whisper, and the outstretched hand of another. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, ”Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Readings for the week of August 9, 2020 Sunday: 1 Kgs 19:9a, 11-13a/Ps 85:9, 10, 11-12, 13-14 [8]/Rom 9:1-

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY

In this Gospel, Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring respite and hope to the elderly who are not able to find relief from the summer heat, and you will bring them faith and hope!

VOCATIONS

Although, we don’t know when this world will end, we do know that the end is always drawing closer. We do not have forever to answer God’s call. Can God be calling you to help share His mercy in a profound way? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535.

ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Now toward the end of the summer season, the Church celebrates the most glorious “Harvest Festival” in the Communion of Saints — Mary, the supremely blessed one among women, Mary the most precious fruit which has ripened in fields of God’s kingdom, is today taken into heaven. So August 15th is the day we as Catholics have long celebrated what is called the Dormition (falling asleep) or Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This feast of the Assumption celebrates both the happy departure of Mary from this life by her natural death, and her assumption bodily into heaven.

QUEEN OF MARTYRS WEBSITE A reminder that the church has a website as a way to keep you up to date on parish happenings and ways to become involved in the parish. The site contains such features as the Mass schedules, the weekly bulletin, parish organizations such as the St. Vincent de Paul Organization, Parish Bible Study Group, and Respect Life. There is also a Religious Education section which contains the calendar of events, sacramental information and registration forms. If you have any suggestions of something that should be included on the website please contact Mike ([email protected]).

THE 2020 CENSUS IS CRITICAL Where there are more people, there are more needs– for new schools, new roads, and services for families, older adults, and children. We must make sure that you and everyone in your community are counted in the 2020 Census. Results of this count will inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are distributed for important programs and services every year for the next 10 years. The time is now. Don’t risk losing critical benefits and don’t wait to be counted! Respond today at https://2020census.gov.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO OUR LADY

Oh Mary,

you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your

faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People,

know what we need, and we are sure you will provide

so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and feasting

after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the

Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows

to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed

Virgin.
