The readings from Scripture this week remind us to be aware of the false sense of security that comes from wealth or the many possessions we may accumulate in our lives. This certainly is evident in today’s Gospel when the rich man went away sad because he couldn’t part or detach himself from his wealth. It was too much for him to

give up. As we look at ourselves, what are we clinging to that prevents us from accepting Jesus’ invitation to follow Him? Maybe it lies in our quest to become rich and famous or to be popular. Or it may be something else. Today Jesus is calling us to love him with our whole heart. It may seem like a lot for us to give up, but in the long run, it provides us a path to follow that leads to happiness for all eternity.

As we have entered the month of October, we focus our attention to the theme of “Respect Life”. After the Masses this weekend, I would ask you to take a “Baby Bottle” home and fill it with your loose change to support the Women’s Center and help them with the programs they offer to help women and children that are in need of assistance. You have truly been generous in your response in the past and the Women’s Center is truly appreciative of your support.

I ask you to continue to pray for the women who are on the CRHP weekend this week. It’s an opportunity for them to grow closer to the Lord in their relationship with Him and experience an uplifting, rewarding and spiritual journey in their lives.

I want to thank Jane Dunne and the Ministers of Care who sponsored our Anointing Mass last week. It was a spiritual and uplifting celebration. The harpist and the music was inspirational. I am grateful for all the parishioners who came to receive the sacrament. It was a sacred and memorable event.

This weekend we celebrate Columbus Day, taking the time to honor the founder of our country. Whatever you do, keep your travels and plans safe.

Thanks for a wonderful Martyrsfest. It was very profitable this year. The total amount for the fest was $56,500. A wonderful and great way to celebrate our “Martyrs Pride”. It is much appreciated.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

2015 October 21

November 4 & 18

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“To keep me from sin and straying from Him, God has used devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. My life vows destined to be spent in the light irradiating from the tabernacle, and it is the Heart of Jesus that I must go for the solution of all my troubles.”

(St. John XXIII) “Visit the Blessed Sacrament of some church at least once a day.” This was one of the many rules a young “Angelo Roncalli” wrote out for himself. He later became Pope John XXIII and the Church celebrates his feast today. Decide to follow his example. Become a committed Eucharistic Adorer. Sign up at the Adoration Chapel for a specific day and hour or for more information call Marion at (708) 424-8433.

On Monday, October 5th, Envelope No. 0422 was drawn. There was NO winner. The total amount of the prize pot was $5,732.00. To be eligible for the raffle, you must use two separate envelopes for the current week. In your regular weekly envelope, your contribution must be at least $5.00; and you must use the corresponding week’s 50/50 envelope with a $5.00 contribution in that envelope. To be included in the weekly 50/50 drawing, envelopes must be in the rectory office by 8:30 A.M. on the Monday morning immediately after the weekend.

Good luck next week!

In today’s gospel, Jesus challenges the rich man to give up his riches and follow. Sadly enough, he goes away rather than following Jesus. The church does not require us to give all our wealth or possessions away, but does encourage us to share with those less fortunate. What can you do this week to share with those in need? (A few dollars in the poor box instead of Starbucks one day; donating some clothing to the drive next weekend; getting some food together for the annual food drive next month; doing a favor for an elderly neighbor or shut-in who may need help – it doesn’t take much!)

Cub Scout Popcorn Sale The weekends of October 10/11 and October 17/18, before and after all the Masses, our Cub Scouts will be selling their delicious popcorn products.

Beginning THIS weekend, Queen of Martyrs will be participating in

“The Baby Bottle Project “

benefiting The Women’s Centers of

Greater Chicagoland.

Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church, fill it with your spare change,

and return it the weekend of October 31st and November 1st

Queen of Martyrs Students Celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi

On Friday, October 2nd, Queen of Martyrs students in Pre-School and Kindergarten took time to remember a most gentle and loving man, Saint Francis of Assisi. Father Ed visited the children’s class-rooms to remind the children how important it is to take

good care of their pets. Father Ed discussed with the students how Saint Francis set a wonderful example of treating all creation with love and respect. The children brought in their favorite stuffed animal to spend the day in school with them. Father Ed blessed their stuffed animals and asked the children to give special atten-tion to their pets as a way of celebrating this wonderful Feast. Queen of Martyrs students recite “The Prayer of St. Francis” at the end of each day to help them live Pope Francis’s motto of “Love is our Mission”!
