This Sunday, at the 9:30AM Mass, marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. It is an opportunity for our school to highlight the creative approach happening in the classroom setting through use of iPads, Chromebooks and computers. We are blest to have a dedicated faculty and staff who believe in quality education and who challenge

our students to strive toward academic success. Under the guidance of our principal, Mrs. Kathleen Tomaszewski, there is a commitment to ensure that learning is taking place in the classroom and that we are supporting our students in various ways to achieve academic excellence. I would invite you to stop by after 9:30AM Mass and visit our “Open House” to see how our students are learning and observe the process and end results of the classroom work they have achieved. There also will be an Open House on Wednesday evening from 5:30PM until 7:00PM, followed by Family Bingo in the gym from 7:00PM to 8:00PM. Tours of the school will also be available on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Stop by the Book Fair or listen and observe the Hall of Authors presented by our 7th grade students. I am proud of all the efforts our teachers and staff do to prepare our students for their entrance into high school. Stop by and see what Queen of Martyrs has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.

Next Sunday, throughout the Archdiocese, we will launch the Annual Catholic Appeal for 2018. The theme for this year’s appeal is “Come Follow Me”. In the bulletin today, is a brochure explaining how your pledges are used. I would ask you to read the brochure as you prepare to make your pledge this year. Our goal as a parish this year is to reach $31,850. This target is based on 6% of last year’s offertory collection. Last year we went over our target goal and received a rebate back to the parish. With your continued support, my hope is that we can achieve and reach our goal for this year.

If you are looking for ways to be involved in the parish, I would ask you to consider attending the 2-part session of being a Minister of Care training at St. Germaine Parish on Saturday, March 3rd and 10th from 9:00AM until 2:30PM (bring a bagged lunch) or being a Eucharistic Minister at St. Symphorosa Parish on Thursday, February 8th and 15th from 7:00PM until 9:00PM both days.

A reminder that Lent begins February 14. Baptisms are not celebrated during Lent. February 11th is the last time before Lent. Baptisms will resume on Easter Sunday, April 1st.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Again, this week we are encouraged to listen to and follow the words of Jesus. As Lent approaches, have you given any thought to your personal Lenten intentions? Do you plan to share your Christian beliefs as Jesus did – by example? Remember, your actions do speak louder than words.

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”

(Mk 1:27)

One of the first miracles at the start of Jesus’ public ministry was an exorcism in the synagogue at Capernaum. In the Divine Presence of Jesus, evil is destroyed.

Jesus is truly present in Eucharistic Adoration – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Come to Him and in His Divine Presence you will receive the grace to live your life without anxieties, placing your faith, hope and trust in Him who has all authority.

Become a Committed Eucharistic Adorer. Sign up at the Adoration Chapel or for more information call, Marion at (708) 424-8433.

Queen of Martyrs Students Give Literacy Feedback to Their Peers

As part of lesson on writing, Mrs. Creevy’s students were given an assignment to write a narrative essay. They were instructed to tell about their experience in a interesting and informative manner. The students were encouraged to focus on creating amazing content. As a way of generating enthusiasm about the writing process, Mrs. Creevy asked her students to read each others essays. Each student was asked to provide thoughtful suggestions and feedback. The students moved from desk to desk reading the stories and writing comments on feedback sheets. The students really enjoyed reviewing the comments and using their peers ideas to improve their papers.
