Fr. Marty’s Musings In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers a parable of an unjust judge

who eventually rules justly for a persistent widow. Jesus reminds us to be persistent in our prayers. God, the epitome of justice, wants to hear from us. Our prayers need not be fancy, and they can be in our own heart-felt words. Let us remember that Mass is the greatest prayer. When we exercise our prayer life as part of our daily activities, we nourish our faith. Jesus wonders, “will he find faith on earth.” Hopefully we can reply “Yes!”

Though Respect Life Month, we continue in pray for 40 Days for Life and collect through the Baby Bottle Project for the Courage Program and Women’s Centers. Below is some information about Courage.

Next Saturday during the 4:00 Mass, we will offer the Anointing of the Sick. It is a special Mass that we celebrate each fall with one of the seven sacraments of the Church. Some people still call it by its older titles of Last Rites or Extreme Unction but Anointing of the Sick is appropriate for any serious illness or injury. It is not only for the end of life.

As the October Count continues, please reach out to welcome to new or potential parishioners.

Fr. Marty Marren

Sharing your talents, time and treasure.

Renew My Church Prayer Lord Jesus, you speak to us today, as you spoke to holy men and women who have gone before us. In every age and in our own time, you call to us and say: Renew My Church.

Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us, and so enable us

to hear you clearly to listen to each other attentively to imagine our future boldly to discern your direction wisely to persevere in your holy will courageously to stay together in charity to surrender our own plans readily to embrace the greater good to hand on your gifts to future generations.

May we remain in the holy company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the apostles, and all the saints. May their example and presence inspire us with patient confidence in the work of your grace.

We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

On Monday, October 14th, Envelope No. 337 was drawn. There was NO winner. The total amount of the prize pot was $4,686.00.

Anointing Mass Saturday, October 26th

at 4:00PM Mass

The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is administered to people whose health is impaired physically or mentally or advanced in age and brings spiritual and even physical strength during an illness. This sacrament is an outward sign established by Jesus to confer inward Grace and is a rite that is performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient, through the power of the Holy Spirit. This special grace of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick unites the sick person to the passion of Christ and provides strength, peace and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of illness or old age.

Queen of Martyrs will host our annual Anointing Mass on Saturday, October 26th, at 4:00PM. If you are ill or homebound, we hope you will plan to join us for the celebration of the Anointing of the Sick. If you would like to attend and need transportation to Church, please contact your Minister of Care or call the rectory (708-423-8110), and we will arrange for transportation for you. You are a valued member of our parish and we hope you will be able to join us for this prayer-filled afternoon liturgy.

PARISH OUTREACH WINTER WEAR DRIVE

Are you feeling the chill in the air? Parish Outreach would like to help those in need be prepared for the cold winter months ahead. We will be collecting winter wear before and after masses next weekend (October 26 & 27) in the St. Joseph’s room. We would like winter coats, jackets, hats,

scarves, gloves, mittens, snowsuits, boots, heavy shoes, and heavy socks. We will share these items with our clients as well as some of our neighboring community groups. (Please, items that are gently used or new as we cannot pay for cleaning or major repairs to items.)

World Mission Sunday 2019 Today we celebrate World Mission Sunday during this Extraordinary Mission Month. Let us remember the mission at the heart of our Christian faith – to share the Good News with the world! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith supports the priests, religious and lay leaders who embody Christ’s mercy and presence among the most vulnerable commu-nities in our world. They have been charged to proclaim the Word persistently; when it is convenient and inconvenient. Let us pray and offer our support for the Church’s worldwide missionary efforts.

Bethlehem Arts October 26th and 27th

Church Breezeway

Next weekend, Bethlehem Arts will be visiting our parish after all Masses to display hand-carved olive wood religious art made by Catholics in the Holy Land. Your purchase of these beautiful items will help support Catholic families in Bethlehem and Jerusalem, and help them to continue to earn a living in the land of Christ’s birth.

Reflections from ignite 2019 Mission Trip

“My faith was ignited this past week through my work group and the people of Harlan. In just one week, we made strong connections with our carpenter and homeowners. I will keep the fire burning by valuing my relationships with my friends and family at home after hearing some of the stories and experiences

of the people of Harlan. I have learned to cherish everything that life has blessed me with and plan to carry on that lesson after we get home. ”-Allie
