The readings from Scripture this week are filled with many contrasts that we encounter in life: rich and poor, darkness and light, division and unity, withdrawal and leadership. The people of Israel were divided into two kingdoms. The northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. With the Assyrians capturing the northern kingdom

and putting the people in exile, they intermarried with the Gentiles and adopted their customs, causing the southern kingdom to consider the northern kingdom to be in violation of the Mosaic Law. Isaiah’s hope was to bring about healing and reuniting the two kingdoms. Not an easy task. Unless we experience darkness, we don’t know what the power of light can bring. We don’t know the potential that peace can bring without experiencing the pain of division. We only need to look at the past election results that have divided a nation and country who is struggling to find ways to unify. Where do we stand? Do we dwell in darkness and allow ignorance to take over? Do we view a situation as “us vs them” or as “mine vs yours”? We are reminded that we need to make a choice. Only by working together can we make Christ present in our world. Jesus is calling us to change. How are we responding?

Today, we welcome all who have come to celebrate with our 5th grade students from School and Saturday School of Religion at our 9:30AM Mass to join us at this month’s Family Mass.

Next weekend, we begin the celebration of Catholic Schools week at our 9:30AM liturgy followed by our Open House in school. Why not plan on joining us and see what is happening in school and the various ways our students are learning and achieving academic success.

Don’t forget to support our upcoming Spring Fundraiser being held on March 26 at Gaelic Park. Tickets for the Grand Raffle and Dinner are being sold after all the weekend Masses.

Thanks to the Family and School Association for sponsoring Comedy Night. It was a wonderful celebration. It was a great way to enjoy the evening with your family and friends by laughing and having fun.

Reminder that Lent is fast approaching. Baptisms are not celebrated during Lent. February 26 is the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday. Baptisms will resume on April 16, Easter Sunday

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Queen of Martyrs First Grade Classroom Winner of Marquette Bank’s “Adopt A Classroom”

Mrs. Gagner and her students were recipients of a $200 Gift Card as they were selected as one of 22 winners of Marquette Bank’s 2016 Adopt -a- Classroom Prize Drawing. Mrs. Gagner’s class was nominated by First Grader Matthew as part of Marquette Bank’s Neighborhood Commitment Program. The

gift card can be used for school supplies, books, equipment, a field trip, art supplies, teaching materials, or anything that would benefit the class. Mrs. Gagner chose to purchase an App called Osmo for the classroom I-pad. Osmo will help the students with spelling, drawing Tanagrams, problem solving, math numbers, and picture drawing.

Ms. Christie Cox, Marquette Bank Director of Neighborhood Strategy, came to the Mrs. Gagner’s classroom to meet the students and present the gift card. Queen of Martyrs is very grateful to Matthew and his family for their nomination and to Marquette Bank for their generosity!

Thank You for this wonderful opportunity to benefit our students!
