Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. Jesus’ mission on earth is now completed. He has fulfilled His Father’s plan and is now returning to Him. Now, like the Apostles under the guidance of Peter, it is up to us who listen and share in God’s Word to continue to build up the Kingdom of God. How are you living out the Gospel

message and remaining active in your faith? Are you being attentive to God’s Word in your life? If you are unsure how to answer, now is the time to respond by getting involved and finding out what God is calling you to do for the Church.

Happy Mother’s Day! Today we honor the women in our lives who hold a special place in our hearts. They are our mentors and role models. Take the time today to show your appreciation to all mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, stepmothers, adopted mothers and mothers-to-be for all they do for us each and every day in sharing their love and compassion. Enjoy the day with your family.

May is a month to celebrate special occasions such as First Communions, Confirmations, Graduations, Weddings and Ordinations. In the weeks ahead the priests and deacons will be celebrating their Anniversaries of Ordination. I ask you to remember the priests and deacon who minister at Queen of Martyrs:

I will be celebrating my 43rd Anniversary on May 9th. Fr. McCray will be celebrating his 3rd Anniversary on May 18th. Fr. McCarthy will be celebrating his 22nd Anniversary on June 1st. Fr. Guessetto will be celebrating his 37th Anniversary on August 25th. Deacon Bob will be celebrating his 7th Anniversary on May 24th.

This totals 112 years of ministry in the Church. I ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers. It is an honor and a privilege for us to serve the parishioners of Queen of Martyrs and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Ad Multos Annos!

The First Communion celebration was a memorable and enjoyable occasion. Our First Communion class did a wonderful job in singing and praying on their special day. My thanks and appreciation is extended to Ms. Smierciak, our Director of Religious Education; to our teachers and catechists, Mrs. Turano, Ms. Monet, Mrs. Rados and Mrs. King and Mrs. Pazienza; to Mrs. Prendergast for the music; and most especially to our parents who helped prepare the students for this celebration.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there. If you are lucky enough to still have your mother with you, give her a big hug and kiss for all she’s done for you. If your mom is in heaven, remember that she’s watching over you every day and is like your own private “pipeline” to God.

Queen of Martyrs Students Participate in “Hunger Day”

Students and their teachers gathered together for a simple lunch, leaving out cookies, chips, and candy. They ate in silence during a presentation by Queen of Martyrs, Youth Minister, Ms. Tina O’Shea.

The Q of M Youth Ministry Group will be traveling to Harlan, Kentucky this Summer to work with the Christian Outreach Program to assist the Appalachian People. Ms. Tina showed a video of last years Mission Trip. The students were able to see the hard work of the Youth Ministry Group, fixing roofs, repairing homes, as well as gardening and landscaping through-out the Harlan area. Students were given banks and asked to collect spare change, throughout Lent. Over $1,300.00 was donated by Queen of Martyrs School families to help defray the cost of transportation for the teens travel to Harlan.

Ms. Tina and the Queen of Martyrs Youth Ministry Group are very grateful for this generous donation so that they can continue their mission of helping others!
