AUSTRALIAN CRITICAL CARE VOL 5 NO 2 JUNE 1992 WESTERN We seem to have settled into a mould for the year, much activity and continued hard work. Our Advanced Life Support courses continue undoubtedly owing much to Marea Gent's contribution as co-ordinator and the efforts of key participants. WA Branch thanks were recently extended to Eric Miles (Laerdal rep) who resigned from Laerdal. We anticipate continued close working relations with Laerdal's new representative. Strong support was given to the Australian Resuscitation Council's (ARC) (WA Branch) halfday seminar on "Resuscitation" held on 21st March. CACCN members attended and were involved in organisational aspects of this day and the development of a poster presentation to delineate our role. Our Education Committee continues to plan interesting education sessions for each of our branch meetings as well as study days. The first study day aimed at a detailed examination of lschaemic Heart Disease. Topics included: pathophysiology, management of the patient post-infarction, therapeutic interventions, and preventative care. A fruitful Standards Review Workshop was held in February. Permission has been granted by Sarah Sanford for the adaptation of unpublished AACN Standards by CACCN. The teleconference scheduled for May is to seek updates, comments and changes from each State in preparation for the New Zealand conference. Acting upon a suggestion by Keith AUSTRALIA OIBrien, CACCN has extended an invitation to Singapore Critical Care Nurse M.C. Kee to attend the Mandurah Continuing Education meeting in April as our guest. We see this as a step towards a stronger, active liaison with our Singaporean colleagues. Guidelines for the Critical Care Course Awards are near completion following comment and revision by Committee of Management members. We have also given thought to the composition of our membership. Whilst our membership continues to grow, we draw our members, for the most part, from the major Perth teaching hospitals. We would like to expand this membership, to encourage critical care nurses in smaller hospitals to join and participate in CACCN. We would welcome communication from members and those nurses contemplating membership (and indeed, those who do not contemplate membership) as to how we can appropriately meet the needs of nurses in outer metropolitan and country hospitals. This is reflected in the continually growing numbers of members that CACCN (Qld) Inc. has. At last count we had 332 members. The continuing interest in all the workshops run by CACCN, indicates that nurses are hungry for further education. This bodes well for a successful State Conference, which will be held on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, at Coolum on July 31st to August 2nd. Once again, we are hoping to fund as many members as possible to attend this conference. AUSTRALIAN CRITICAL CARE VOL 5 NO 2 JUNE 1992

WESTERN

We seem to have settled into a mould for the year, much activity and continued hard work.

AUSTRALIA

OIBrien, CACCN has extended an invitation to Singapore Critical Care Nurse M.C.
