Overview Commercial wine production in Nova Scotia has a short history, beginning with Roger Dial and Grand Pre Winery in the 1980s Today, there are eleven (11) wineries belonging to the Winery Association of Nova Scotia (WANS) The WANS was founded in 2002 to primarily represent the interests of winemakers in Nova Scotia This project highlights the various wineries in Nova Scotia belonging to the WANS Analyses include grapes used in Nova Scotia wine production, wine produced in Nova Scotia, locations of wineries, and inventory and locations of Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation stores 4. Data Preparation Data began as a table of inventory for bottles of wine in NSLC Fields were created that added together similar types of wine and also to group by winery Other data began as manual input, and was totaled using IBM SPSS for further analysis in the ArcMap environment 6. Statistical Analysis Analyses were performed both on inventory for NSLC stores as well as by production by winery Average Nearest Neighbor tool used to determine pattern of points representing stores(clustered) and wineries(dispersed) Grape popularity and wine popularity was also analyzed 9. Return on Investment Nova Scotia wine industry contributes over $200 million annually to the provincial economy 100,000 tourists have visited Nova Scotia wineries in 2012 The total impact that the wine industry has on the Canadian economy is over $6.8 billion This project can encourage wineries to invest in promotion of online and user-friendly tools to encourage wine consumption and winery tours
