My masthead

My masthead is distinctive to my magazine. It is written in the biggest font sizes, making it stand out from the rest of the page. The font used for the masthead is “Titania” this font is clear and easy to read, the cursive nature of it also relates to my target audience. Similar to other magazines my masthead is written in capital letters, allowing it to be prominent, this is a common convention used in magazine this is evident from the XXL and Blender(India) magazine. My masthead stands out as it is written in read on a gray/white background these two colours are complementary allowing my masthead to stand out. It is also written in red not limiting my target audience to one particular sex. this is another convention using contrasting colours for the masthead and background.Similar to other mast heads my main image is in front if it showing the importance of my main image.

Poses

These are predictable poses used in an Asian music magazines where the artist is the center off attention and is directly addressing the audience.

I have asked my model to pose in this conventional manner.

It was important to follow these conventions as it would make it easier for my target audience to relate and identify with my magazine

PropsMy magazine uses a variety of props such as make up, Indian outfits as well as musical instruments used on my contents page and double page spread. I tired various other props such as bangles however they made the mast head harder to see and therefore less appealing. As a result I have opted to use less props to create a more simple and sophisticated design, this gives an authentic look and shows the artist in a more conventional manner.

The artist in the rave magazine is also not wearing a lot of jewellery on the front cover similar to my magazine.

The PuffMany music magazines use a puff to help attract an audience by saying there magazine is the best. This technique of persuasion is used to entice the audience. The puff is a very typical feature of a front cover.

The puff in my magazine is “the biggest and best Asian music magazine.”This is an effective puff as it uses “sales” language that would help attract a wider audience as they would want to read something that is the best and able to trust. This is know as a selling or a marketing tool to attract and address the audience.

The puff used in the XXL magazine is “A decade of dominance” this could show it is the desired magazine compared to other competitors as they are “ dominating the magazine industries.

My magazine is very conventional for an Asian music magazine, this is because it follows and confides to the standard conventions. For example, my main artist is placed in front on the mast head. There are also may sell lines used along with large numbers like “33 or 10” to get the readers attention. I have also used common language as I say “exposed and exclusive” these buzz words help to attract the audience. This is similar to the Blender India magazine, who also targets a an Asian audience.

Page 10: Question 1

• My media product uses and develops the forms and conventions of a typical music magazine.

• This is done with the use of typical features in the front cove, contents page and double page spread, such as the mast head and floating quotes which all help to entice the audience.

• However in some instances my media product does challenge the forms ad conventions of a real media product. An example of this is apparent in the double page spread where I have only used one main central image, whereas in most real music magazines more than one image is used. I have chosen to go against this conventions as I believe having one main central image would help focus the reader allowing them to become engrossed in the article, whilst still having a visual aid. The one main central image also helps to divide the page into two sections. The image is used as a main focus point for the audience it also shows the artist in her essences connoting the artist is the centre off attention as well as being in the middle page of the magazine again showing the artist’s importance.
