Forms & ConvectionsIn what way has my music magazine developed

or challenge forms and conventions?

Cover

Convections of my music magazine

• Eye contact is important for the magazine the customers/audience feel more drawn into the artist.

• Also the main image is in the center of the page and covers the whole page, I did this so the magazine is equal.

• Having the headline name in the middle of the page makes the picture stand out and look balanced with the main image.

• The main image links to the main headline so that the audience know who the artist is without any doubt and just being able to look at the picture and know straight away who it is.

• Also the background is the same color all the way around so that the artist stands out from the background.

In the image nothing covers the artist face, I have made the artist come in front of the masthead so he is the main focus.

Cover lines

Either on the left or right of the page so that the writing doesn't’t come in front of the artist face .

You can use the cover lines as margins against the page so the writing doesn't’t come off the page.

The writing Is clear so they can read the other artist that are included in the magazine.

Masthead

• The position of the masthead is at the top of the page so that it is easy to read. If sold in a shop, the masthead would have to be at the top of the page because anywhere else you wouldn't’t be able to see it and know what the title of the magazine was called straight away.

• The font of the masthead is different to everything else so that it stands out, also it has strokes on so it jumps out to an audience.

• The font size has to be the biggest writing on the page so the customers can clearly tell it’s the name of the magazine.

The Headline

The headline has to be the second largest font on the front page so that people don’t ignore the artist name for example if the artist was new, upcoming or unknown at the time it would catch an eye. Also the font is in capitals so its big and bold.

The name of the artist is on the front page in this case its M.DOT.

Normally underneath the headline they have a sentence or a quote to tell you a little bit about the artist or why they are in the magazine. I have chosen ‘New Star in the Hood’ this relates to the R&B genre and gives us information how he is a upcoming artist.

Selling Line

The selling line is normally right next to the masthead so that It can tell you what magazine it is.

I have put mine just underneath the masthead so that the writing is not hidden so the viewers can easily spot the selling line and have used black writing on the white background so it stands out and also stays within the colour scheme.

Contents Page

FeaturesMy features Column consist of using the same colour from my front page so that it all blends in together. I have made the font for the numbers bigger than the information on the artist bigger because the numbers need be seen clearly and can be easily spotted.

I have only used one column along the side of the page because I was trying to use the same idea from the vibe magazine just in different colours. I have used one so it stands out and looks tidy, it also helps by keeping the margins straight so the writing doesn't’t come off the page.

Image

I have only used one image for the contents but

have made sure that the picture fills the page so it gives

the audience an artist to focus on.

The image is important, that’s why I have made sure the

artist Is keeping eye contact. Also the picture has an effect

on it, I done this because it keeps in touch with the

colour scheme and it brings out the red from the quote.

Page title ‘This Month’ I have chosen to use ‘This Month’ as the main title because I thought contents was used to much in a lot of magazines so using This Month suggest that the magazine is out every month and is a popular magazine

Also the date of the magazine is in smaller writing so that it it doesn't’t intervene with the page title. I have put the date in, because it shows to the reader when the magazine was out and so they don’t have to turn to the back of the magazine to look for it.

Article

The artist of my article is Louis E. I used a different artist in the article so it gives the magazine depth and a different style of photo for the audience.

Louis stands out in the article because I have given him a lot of space and I have put an effect on his image so its like he is jumping out to the audience.

Its good that he is keeping eye contact because it makes a connection straight away with the customers which will want them to read on.

This quote is positioned to the right of Louis so it gives the readers a quote to see and draw them in to reading more.

This ‘Exclusive’ suggest that the article Is popular and should be read.

The name of the magazine so they know he has done is Q&A for them and so that the readers recognize the magazine masthead.

This is the article main title so this gives an idea to the readers what the article will be about and will decide if they wish to carry on reading or to ignore it.

This subheading gives that little bit extra information to the audience also it has the artist in red so his name stands out.

The article is in 3 columns so it is easier to read and also the image in the middle gives a hint what to expect.

Forms• The colour scheme of my magazine is black, white and red. I have chosen

these colours because it fits in with the R&B style and also the colours catch the audience eye.

• I have used images all the way through the magazine which have all been taken by myself. As the magazine has to be printed video clips would not be acceptable.

• I have used different fonts throughout to see which types fit my magazine and which don’t by seeing if thy fit the genre style and if they are bold and easy to read.
