Trailer: Conventions used The love interest: Across various coming of age trailers that we watched for product research we found that a common convention across these were the presence of a love interest and so we felt it essential to include one in our trailer as an aspect that intrigues our target audience.

The “Clique”:In our trailer we used a mid, tracking shot to introduce our protagonist in her natural surroundings and with her friends. This is a convention that we found was very common in the coming of age genre during our product research . We included this

convention in our trailer in order to help our audience distinguish the genre easily as they are able to recognise familiar traits across the genre. Also we felt the nature of the shot used added movement to our piece that made it more engaging and found that it effectively connotes youth.

Trailer: Conventions used

During our product research we noticed that in recent films of this genre tended to included social media in the billing slate at the end of their trailers and so we included this in our trailer in order to create a sense of familiarity for our target audience which would make it more appealing to them as they are able to recognise the genre. Also this is a convention which appeal to a younger audience which our target audience is and so we felt it important to include it in out trailer.

Trailer: Challenged Conventions We aimed to subvert a narrative convention we had noticed in many coming of age films, which was the resolution revolving around the securing of a romantic relationship. To challenge this we decided to create a narrative in which our protagonist seeks her independence. We felt that this would effectively appeal to our target audience as it offered a new take on a genre that they are familiar with which makes them more engaged and intrigued.

Film Poster: Conventions Used

We included a generic billing slate at the bottom of our poster as this was a convention we noticed across all genres of film. We decided to include this as it made he poster appear more authentic and also establishes is purpose to our audience as it is a feature that they recognise well.

We included a tagline at the top of our poster as this was a convention that we felt effectively connect our three media products for our target audience and overall makes the promotional package more cohesive. The secures our target audiences understanding of the events and genre of our film.

Film Poster: Challenged Conventions

We challenged conventions of layout for most film posters by positioning our cover model in the lower half of the poster. We did this in order to challenge our target audiences expectations, we decided to do this after we received feedback during audience feedback which indicated that he majority of our target audience wanted a package that differs from expectation and conventions.

Film Magazine: Conventions Used

We used a limited number of cover lines in order to give our magazine a minimalistic design which we found was a convention of independent magazines a hey aim to appeal to an audience that is already well versed and informed on events in the film industry.

We included a slogan at the top of our magazine in order to make it more recognisable for our target audience and this is a vey common convention of both mainstream and independent magazines as a method of establishing a brand. Also we felt this was a method that allowed us to highlight to our target audience the focus our type of magazine has.

Film Magazine: Challenged Conventions

We used the font from our film poster on the cover of our magazine in order to create a sense of continuity between all of our products and this topography was also used on the tile slates in our trailer. This subverted the conventions that we had noticed during product research as typically we found the title of independent films used a font consistent with the s of the magazine.

Conclusion Overall I feel that we have effectively created a

cohesive and appealing promotional package that has applied appropriate conventions that make each form of media recognisable to our target audience. I think we have effectively considered our knowledge of conventions and developed these in order to make a promotional package that is refreshing and intriguing for our target audience.
